Horikoshi Reveals All For One’s Real Name

His Name Is Zen Shigaraki

The newest My Hero Academia fan book, My Hero Academia Ultra Age, has revealed some major information about one of the series’ biggest antagonists, All For One.

All For One has caused most of the trouble observed in the series, and was the arch nemesis of none other than All Might, with whom he came face to face multiple times.

Horikoshi just dropped a major reveal about this major villain, and that is his much-awaited full name. This is the first time ever fans get to learn this information, which was never previously mentioned in the manga. The only thing fans knew was his last name, Shigaraki, which he passed on to Tomura.

All For One’s real name was revealed to be Zen Shigaraki by Horikoshi —a piece of information fans definitely didn’t expect to see.

Horikoshi Reveals How Zen Shigaraki Got His Last Name

The Name Came From Shigaraki Tanuki

Zen Shigaraki, better known as All For One, didn’t always possess his last name. Zen got his last name Shigaraki from a sex worker who he had heard a rumor of, and she was known as Shigaraki Tanuki.

Horikoshi describes her as having no patron, but despite that, staying outside the entrance of the red light district.

People referred to this woman as Shigaraki Yaki Tanuki, in Japanese written as 信楽焼. This name refers to a raccoon statue.

Horikoshi doesn’t give this Shigaraki Tanuki a good ending, however, as her story ends with her body found dead near the river.

If it's freedom you desire, then submit to me, my brethren. And bear witness, by my side. This impending void era will give rise to a more perfect demon lord. This will be the story of how I became the greatest demon lord of all! — All For One (Zen Shigaraki)

This story, while vague, basically tells the story of how All For One was born. Shigaraki Tanuki is actually his own mother. While it isn’t directly stated, fans know this since All For One’s backstory has already been shown where he was born and actually consumed her flesh after she died. These are the glimpses of memories he has of her. Something drove him to take her name without even knowing she was actually his own mother.
