After a decade of encapsulating fans with a unique take on the superhero dynamic, My Hero Academia's manga is finally nearing its end. From being a Quirkless hero to using One for All in ways that previous users couldn't even think of, the legacy of Izuku Midoriya will live on long after his final battle to save all of humanity. Along with the protagonist, My Hero Academia features its fair share of amazing major and minor characters who are pretty memorable in their own right, too.

The Strongest Heroes That Have Died
My Hero Academia: Strongest Heroes Who Have Died, Ranked

Although rare, several heroes have met their demise in My Hero Academia. Here's a look at the strongest ones that have perished so far.

Being a hero is no easy task, and these people usually employ a hero name to help them stand out and become some of Japan's biggest personalities. While the vast majority of these hero names do a great job of doing justice to the power of their Quirks, there are some hero names that are just so ridiculously silly that it can be hard to take the character associated with them seriously.

5 Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight (Katsuki Bakugo)

An Overly Long Name That Somehow Suits Bakugo's Personality

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 1
  • Anime Debut: Episode 1

There was a time when Bakugo was nothing more than a one-dimensional bully who fans loved to hate, with his relentless hazing of Midoriya being unnecessarily mean. However, after All Might loses his powers, Bakugo gets some time to shine as a character, goading his rival into a battle with him before revealing his insecurities. The fact that he blames himself for All Might's retirement hits hard, which compels Midoriya to reveal the secret of One for All to his dearest friend.

This helps Bakugo deal with his trauma, slowly becoming more adept at being a powerful superhero and using his explosive Quirk to great effect. His fiery personality is one of the biggest reasons why people love his character, so it only makes sense that a character like him would leave no subtlety when it comes to his hero name. Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight is a moniker that leaves nothing to the imagination and is a hilariously long name that's used as a punchline for some well-written jokes. This name is perfectly apt for a character like him, which is impressive given how silly it can sound.

4 Pinky (Mina Ashido)

A Lazy Hero Name That Offers Very Little Information Regarding Her Character

Mina Ashido in My Hero Academia
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 6
  • Anime Debut: Episode 5

Given the sheer number of characters in My Hero Academia, it's easy to see why a character like Mina Ashido may not get enough screen time to be truly fleshed out. This, coupled with a Quirk that isn't all that impressive, means that a lot of people don't rate her all that highly. It seems that Horikoshi himself is of the same opinion, given that her hero name is one of the most boring ones in the entire series.

Instead of a name that highlights the damaging properties of her Acid Quirk, she decided to go forward with the hero name 'Pinky,' which is a moniker so thoughtless that it just hammers home how forgettable her presence is in the series. Aside from the bond she shares with Kaminari, there's nothing all that interesting about Ashido, which is a shame since her Quirk could've been halfway impressive if it received the same love and attention as the other main characters in the series.

3 Can't Stop Twinkling (Yuga Aoyama)

A Silly Name Completely In-Line With Aoyama's Weird Personality

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 3
  • Anime Debut: Episode 4

Aoyama seemed like a character who was solely used for comic relief purposes, only for him to occupy a major role in the narrative as the story developed. After being blackmailed by All for One and turning against his friends, he takes part in a memorable story arc near the tail end of the series where he's revealed to be the traitor in U.A., with his family being threatened by the diabolical supervillain if Aoyama didn't feed him the information he needed.

Still, his demeanor is pretty silly, and this can be seen in the bizarre hero name he chose. His Navel Laser is certainly quite flashy, but calling himself Can't Stop Twinkling makes it hard to take this character seriously, even though his power can be pretty damaging when used correctly.

2 Grape Juice (Minoru Mineta)

A Joke Name For A Joke Hero

Mineta from My Hero Academia
Mineta from My Hero Academia
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 5
  • Anime Debut: Episode 5

Mineta holds the unwanted record of being one of the worst anime characters of all time. His relentless perversion makes him an unlikable character from the get-go, and things get even worse for him when it turns out that his Quirk is one of the most unremarkable ones in the entire series. There's a reason why fans question his spot in Class 1-A, even if he does make an effort to make his Quirk more useful in battle.

So, it's no surprise that this ridiculous character is graced with a hero name perfectly in line with his character. Grape Juice does not sound like an intimidating hero name at all, making it the perfect fit for a character who is mainly present for comic relief and doesn't have too many highlights to speak of.

1 Deku (Izuku Midoriya)

An Especially Unflattering Name For Such An Iconic Hero

Izuku Midoriya as The Dark Hero in My Hero Academia
  • Manga Debut: Chapter 1
  • Anime Debut: Episode 1

Deku is a name that Bakugo calls Midoriya time and time again to deride him. Despite his Quirkless nature, Midoriya took this in stride and turned this name into something positive for him. In a way, it's admirable that the protagonist decided to turn this insult into his hero name, showing just how emotionally strong he is.

However, without this context, Deku is nothing more than a bizarre name that doesn't make sense given the amazing powers that Midoriya can whip out at a moment's notice. It doesn't do justice to his overall strength and is a name that no self-respecting hero would call themselves, making it even worse that this hero name is used by none other than the protagonist himself.
