Summary
- One For All evolves through multiple users, passing down unique abilities to Midoriya in My Hero Academia.
- Kurogiri's Warpgate Quirk is revealed to have a dark origin connected to Aizawa and Mic in the series.
- Eri's Rewind Quirk, with a unique energy aspect, holds mysterious potential for undoing more than just people.
While there are many Quirks in the world of My Hero Academia that are straightforward to understand, throughout the series, there have also been those that are a little more mysterious and obscure. Whether this is because the true potential of the Quirk itself is unknown, or simply that its abilities are not revealed within the story until a long time later, it has resulted in a fair few of these abilities being the topic of fan conversation for quite a while due to their mystery.
Best Female Characters In My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia is packed with iconic female characters, and that includes both heroes and villains. Here are the best MHA girls.
Author Kohei Horikoshi loves getting creative with these personal attributes, so it's always a ton of fun seeing what unique power he conjures up for each new character. In the case of the abilities below, however, part of the reason they have become so interesting is due to the many questions that surround them. With that being said, it's time to take a look at the most mysterious Quirks that have been shown throughout My Hero Academia.
8 One For All
The Secrets Hidden Within One For All Reveal Themselves Over Time
- Users: Midoriya, All Might, Previous Vestiges
While it was clear that One For All was a Quirk that greatly enhances the user's strength, as demonstrated by All Might in the very first episode, it was always clear there was something else hiding beneath the surface. Fans were left guessing what One For All could truly do, but it wouldn't be until the Joint Training arc that its true potential started to become clear.
Since One For All had been transferred between several people, by the time Midoriya acquired it, all of these prior users had been able to make contact. In other words, they were all prepared to pass their Quirks down to Midoriya to help him finally defeat All For One, and it was a lot of fun guessing what all of these weird and unusual abilities could do, and whether One For All could evolve yet again at some point later in the story.
7 Warp Gate
An Overpowered Quirk With A Very Strange And Unpredictable Backstory
- User: Kurogiri
Kurogiri is already a pretty mysterious villain, considering he doesn't utter a word during his time in the series, but he also possesses a rather strange Quirk. Warpgate allows Kurogiri to create portals that can transport him and his allies anywhere they need to go. He uses this plenty of times in the earlier arcs to rescue the League of Villains whenever they are confronted by the heroes, such as during the Hideout Raid arc.
Best My Hero Academia Characters, Ranked
My Hero Academia is full of incredible characters, but these stand out from the crowd.
However, much later in the story, after Kurogiri is taken into Tartarus prison, it's revealed he wasn't someone who was born with his Quirk, at least not exactly. The truth is, Kurogiri is actually Aizawa and Mic's childhood friend, Oboro, who was tragically killed in an accident and transformed into a Nomu by All For One. Warpgate always felt like it was a little too powerful, as if it had been handcrafted, and that's because Oboro's Cloud Quirk was used as the base to create Warpgate during the experimentation phase.
6 Rewind
Rewind's Full Potential Remains A Mystery
- User: Eri
Rewind can seem like a pretty simple Quirk on the surface, but there's still a lot that isn't known about its full potential, primarily because its user, Eri, is still only a child. One strange part of Rewind is the horn that Eri acquires due to possessing it. This horn essentially shows how much energy Eri has stored within the quirk, which is why she's able to break it off and give it to Midoriya near the very end of the story.
Most Quirks are either inherent within the person's body or an outward mutation, so having the two is rather unique. It's also just not known how far Eri's Quirk can actually go, and whether it can be Awakened, which could potentially revert not just people, but even objects and the world itself.
5 High Spec
How Nezu Obtained His Quirk Is Up For Debate, Though There Are Still Some Clues
- User: High Specs
Nezu is an extremely rare example of an animal that was apparently born with a Quirk. High Specs gifts Nezu with an extremely high IQ, even higher than that of the average human, which is how he earned his position at the top of UA High. There's not much known about Nezu's backstory, but what has been mentioned is that he was once experimented on by humans, hence why he has such a dark sense of humor.
The question is whether Nezu was born with his Quirk, which then caught the attention of humans, or if he was granted the Quirk by those who decided to conduct the experiments. The exact origins of Nezu's Quirk may never be known, but that arguably just makes it all the more interesting.
4 All For One
The Ultimate Quirk Ability Sounded Too Good To Be True
- User: All For One
While All For One himself isn't shown in the flesh until the villains kidnap Bakugo, he is mentioned here and there by All Might numerous times, as if some kind of boogieman who everyone knows of, but is afraid to talk about. In addition, his immensely powerful Quirk was also only described in very vague details. The ability to steal and use other people's Quirks sounded too good to be true, but fans got to see for themselves just how absurdly strong this Quirk really is after All For One runs into All Might, resulting in one of the most epic clashes in the entire series.
My Hero Academia: 7 Characters Killed By All For One
All For One is more than happy to take a hero down if they dare stand in his way, with these characters being his most well-known victims.
How many Quirks All For One can steal, and what strength and mobility boosts the Quirk itself provides, are questions fans are still asking to this day. The truth is, All For One is so strong that it's hard to even fathom its underlying potential, so while it's been used plenty of times, it was one of the biggest mysteries in the story before All For One himself made his official introduction.
3 Gearshift
The Second's Quirk Didn't Reveal Itself Until Near The End Of The Story
- Users: Midoriya, Kudo
After Midoriya learns that he will be obtaining all the previous One For All users' Quirks during the Joint Training arc, these abilities reveal themselves one by one throughout the story. However, while Blackwhip, Float, and many of the others become Midoriya's go-to tools anytime he finds himself up against a tough opponent, the second user's Quirk was mysteriously left in the shadows, barely even mentioned until the end of the story.
The reason for this is that Gearshift is such an insanely strong ability that Midoriya can only use it as a last resort. The Quirk itself grants Midoriya a staggering strength and speed boost, though using it takes a huge toll on his body, ridding him of oxygen and making it difficult for him to move around. There were many discussions concerning what this ability could be leading up to its eventual reveal, and it's fair to say that it didn't disappoint.
2 Object Attraction
Since Inko Prefers To Hide Her Quirk, Barely Anything Is Known About It
- User: Inko Midoriya
Though Inko's Quirk isn't all that flashy or exciting, the reason it's become such a fascination to many fans is due to how little it has been shown in the series. In fact, the ability doesn't even have a name, though what is known is that it allows Midoriya's mother to gravitate small objects toward her by creating specific motions with their hands.
The range of this technique and whether it can be used on human beings is unknown. What is also unclear is just how big these items can be, which would help determine how useful it really is. Its weaknesses, its strengths, its limitations; barely anything is known about Inko's ability, though at least fans actually get to see it in action, which can't be said about Midoriya's father.
1 Blue Blur
It Looks Like SEGA's Mascot Somehow Found His Way Into The Hero Academy
- User: Unamed Blue Hero
Fans of My Hero Academia will know all too well that Horikoshi loves dropping in cameos now and again. While Denji from Chainsaw Man has already made an appearance, this one might just be the weirdest of them all. Though it only shows up for a single panel and scene in the series, this hero is seemingly using a Quirk inspired by none other than Sonic the Hedgehog.
While it's safe to presume that this makes him a lot faster, one can only imagine whether this Quirk allows the hero to use a Spin Dash or even collect rings to power them up. While it's just a humorous nod to the Legendary Blue Blur, it's nonetheless been an ability that has sparked much conversation among the fanbase.
