My Hero Academia is slowly counting down to its final episodes as the last season has begun releasing episodes. A story that captured the hearts of millions across the world and immortalized the phrase "Plus Ultra" will no doubt go down in history as one of the greatest of all time.

Kohei Horikoshi delivered an astounding work of fiction, blending Western superhero culture with Eastern manga storytelling, in an impactful, emotionally charged adventure about a young man who becomes the world's number one hero. Throughout the series, countless heroes give their all just as hard as Deku and embody what it means to be a selfless hero. Throwing their lives on the line daily, here are some of the most selfless characters in My Hero Academia.

Recovery Girl

The Helpful Healer of UA Academy

Recovery Girl doesn't have a prominent role throughout My Hero Academia, but she was vital when Deku was first getting the hang of using his power. Recovery Girl is the school nurse at UA Academy, whose quirk heals the injuries of her beloved students who venture too close to the sun.

Utilizing her Heal quirk, Recovery Girl can mend broken bones and severe damage by speeding up the innate healing process of the body with a kiss. Recovery Girl must see the hardships that heroes and students alike put themselves through and overcome, enduring trauma to take care of those around her.

Koji Koda

The Heart Of Gold Hero

Koji Koda is probably the most innocent and pure soul in UA Academy, joining class 1-A the same year as Deku. As a very reserved and shy young man, Koji sought to become a hero and make use of his animal-communication quirk. While not suited for combat, Koji still made himself valuable to his allies and people in need, making a considerable impact on the frontline. While not having the strongest quirk or being the toughest fighter, Koji never hesitates to help those around him. Having an open heart, Koji will throw himself into the fray to live up to the title of hero.

Inginium

The Ever Faithful Student Class President

Tenya Ida is the beating heart of UA Academy's Class 1-A. As a third-generation hero in the making, Ida prides himself on setting an example to his classmates and living up to the ideals and virtues that the hero Ingenium carried every step of the way. In many ways, Ida is the best of the best, with the only aspect overpowering his dedication being his selflessness. Ida races to the aid of anyone in need and will stop at nothing to ensure the future's safety, even at the cost of his well-being.. Even if not the strongest, the fastest, or the most powerful, Ida will always be first to act and last to leave.

Red Riot

The Shield Of The Weak

Red Riot is in a league of his own when it comes to selflessness, with every fiber of his being forged to carry the load that others can't endure. With his incredible hardening quirk, Red Riot places himself between the innocent and harm's way, shrugging off the blows of giants to protect those behind him. Red Riot has stared down literal giants with no hesitation, taking on villains like Gigantomachia and Rappa. As dense and hard as his surface is, Red Riot is a highly kind and emotionally mature young man who will be the perfect shield out of sheer force of will if nothing else.

Edgeshot

The Thread That Binds Heroes Together

Edgeshot appeared sparingly in My Hero Academia, but remained one of the most consistent pro heroes even after many heroes returned after their fall from grace. Edgeshot strikes at evil's heart with deadly precision, aided by his extremely versatile Foldabody quirk. Able to transform his body into a thin thread, he gives himself perfect defense and perfect offense. But physical capabilities aside, Edgeshot gives his heart in every situation and leads by example. His shining moment in the series is risking his life to save Bakugo's, possibly at the cost of his own.

Star And Stripe

A Hero Who Made The Ultimate Sacrifice

Star and Stripe made their debut in Season five of My Hero Academia, stepping in to confront the newly awakened Shiguraki, who was on a tear. Her introduction was explosive as she showed why she deserved to stand at the side of All Might himself.

With her sensation quirk, New Order, kept Shiguraki on the ropes and left an enormous impact in the series. Star's instant choice to make the ultimate sacrifice for her comrades echoed her selflessness. It was clear that Star had no intention of striving for greatness for herself, but for those around her to depend on.

Deku

The New Star Of Heroism

The star of the show and the smile that captivated anime fans all over the world, Deku made his way from rock bottom and quirkless to standing on the frontline with the fate of the world on his shoulders. More than anything else in the world, Deku wanted to be a hero like his idol, All Might.

Striving to walk in the footsteps of the symbol of peace, Deku received his chance and became All Might's successor. However, Deku needed only to train his body as his spirit was already pure, and his heart possessed a level of selflessness that pushed him to do the right thing no matter what. Whether it's running into danger without a quirk or putting his body on the line for a little girl, Deku stands at the peak of heroism.

All Might

The Symbol Of Peace

The world's number one hero rose to international acclaim for bringing relief with only the image of his back. All Might, just like Deku, started as a quirkless hopeful hero and inherited Oner For All and became the greatest Hero ever to be.

But while All Might's strength, speed, and endurance were pivotal in his role, it was his unmatched valiant and noble efforts that turned him into more than just a man. Even after his retirement, All Might still dedicates his life to protecting those who can not defend themselves, making his own well-being an afterthought.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
