This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia's Final Saga.

My Hero Academia was, for a decade, one of Shonen Jump’s pillars as one of its best-selling and most popular series. Written and illustrated by the mangaka Kohei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia is one of the biggest modern anime and manga series, and the author's skill with a pen can’t be understated. Horikoshi is definitely one of the best artists at Weekly Shonen Jump, as proven time and again with his incredible manga panels.

That said, Horikoshi doesn’t always do everything on his own, much like any other mangaka. He gets help from his editors with things like backgrounds, and it was recently revealed that he even got help once from a new gen mangaka, Takeru Hokazono, the creator of the new hit manga, Kagurabachi. Takeru Hokazono helped Horikoshi during one of the most intense parts of the My Hero Academia manga. He specifically assisted with the panel of Twice where Sad Man's Death Parade was showcased. This was one of the first, but definitely not the last of Hokazono and Horikoshi’s collaborations.

Recently, the creator of the My Hero Academia manga, Kohei Horikoshi, had an intriguing interview. Many interesting questions were answered by the author, but fans were especially invested in the questions surrounding Kagurabachi’s Hokazono.

Hokazono was asked about his visit to Horikoshi before the serialization of Kagurabachi, and fans were shocked to learn that Hokazono actually helped Horikoshi out when he and his team were low on time for submitting one of the chapters.

It was specifically revealed that Hokazono helped draw quite an intricate panel that features Twice and his many clones. That panel was of Sad Man’s Parade from My Hero Academia chapter 391.

Interestingly, this MHA chapter dropped in June 2023, 3 months before Hokazono’s own manga, Kagurabachi, started serialization.

The question and answer in full can be read here:

Question 2: Before starting serialization on Kagurabachi, you, Hokazone visited Horikoshi's studio did you not? Can you share anything you learned there?

Hokazono: Seeing someone as amazing as Horikoshi-sensei draw with his unbelievable speeds, right infront of my eyes? It made me think: "So it really is a human drawing all of this after all." (He laughs).. It was really important for me to feel that sensation. People who are seen as too amazing often tend to be idolized "like gods", but since I'm going to stand on the same stage as him as a mangaka, I have no choice but to aim for that level. Realizing that if I work hard, I can get there, it really meant a lot to me. At the same time though, my visit time coincided with his deadline day (he laughs).. I visited around noon, but as the sun set, the air (mood) gradually grew tenser by the moment. Even the editor started fidgeting (he laughs)..

Horikoshi: A mess equal to the path of Ashura, I remember when you were visiting, we were so crammed with time that I ended up asking you, who were supposed to just be observing, to help in aswell (he laughs)

Hokazono: Ah, the page where a bunch of Twice appear all at once.. What an absolutely incredible experience.! Horikoshi-sensei's studio was surprisingly efficient, especially with his | assistants in ploy. Seeing how incredibly fast they worked, I almost panicked to myself on the way home, and I remember thinking to myself: "I can't draw that fast, there's no way right?! How am I ever going to manage serialization..!?" But again, it was such a valuable experience because it made the previously vague idea of 'what a serializing manga looks like' much more clear to me.

My Hero Academia and Kagurabachi Have More History Together

  • MHA and Kagurabachi Recently Had An Art Exchange

My Hero Academia’s Horikoshi and Kagurabachi’s Hokazono have had quite a few interactions together. One of their first ones was when Hokazono helped with Sad Man’s Parade, but it definitely was not the last, and more will follow in the future.

It was also revealed a while back that Horikoshi oversaw the creation of Kagurabachi’s very first manga chapter. This is huge and shows how Horikoshi’s guidance helped get Hokazono to where he is today.

Deku declares that he's here! - My Hero Academia

Now, even more recently, the two series had a collaboration. Hokazono illustrated MHA’s protagonist, Deku, while Horikoshi did the same for Kagurabachi’s main character, Chihiro Rokuhira.

The friendship between the two seems to only be growing, and fans can’t wait to see what more they have in store for them going forward. Horikoshi could get very involved again in Kagurabachi, especially since he doesn’t have MHA to work on anymore.

The My Hero Academia manga concluded with 431 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus. When it comes to the anime, this series is still awaiting its final season, which will be released later this year. The series can be watched on Crunchyroll.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
