This list contains spoilers for My Hero Academia

Considering Deku was desperate to become a hero by any means necessary at the beginning of My Hero Academia, it makes sense why he would jump at the chance to obtain One For All when he was offered it by the legendary All Might. The truth is though, while Deku would eventually come to master this overwhelmingly powerful Quirk, and all the external abilities that come with it, he didn't exactly seem like the right fit for the Quirk at first, considering he wasn't someone who possessed the strength and durability needed to use One For All in a fight without destroying his own body.

My Hero Academia: Every Evolution Of Deku & His Quirk (So Far)

Deku is no longer the quirkless kid he once was as he's evolved significantly throughout the My Hero Academia anime.

However, in a world where Quirks can come in all kinds of different forms, there have inevitably been a few abilities shown throughout the series which feel like they would have suited Deku a lot better for one reason or another. Deku may have proven that he is more than worthy of being an inheritor of One for All by the end of the My Hero Academia story, but these Quirks listed below would also have been ideal for the plucky protagonist to have.

Invisiblity

Deku Could Obscure Himself To Avoid Getting Flustered

  • User: Toru Hagakure

At the beginning of the series, Deku, considering he only obtained his Quirk a few days before joining the Academy, was far less confident in his abilities than many of the other students in Class 1-A. Therefore, while he was always willing to duke it out with a villain in order to rescue those in need, he would often be terrified of using his power since he knew it could easily destroy his own limbs in the process. If Deku had the Invisibility Quirk though, it would allow him to get the drop on a villain without them even knowing he's there, feeding into his strategic mindset which has been apparent since the very first episode.

Unlike a lot of shōnen protagonists who prefer running in and throwing a barrage of punches as soon as they can, Deku will often try to analyze his opponents before engaging in combat. Of course, this is never easy to do, considering as soon as a villain lays eyes on him, they won't waste time trying to take him down, but by remaining hidden from the naked eye, he could play a supporting role by feeding information back to the other Pro Heroes without putting himself in danger.

Jet

Jumping In And Rescuing Civilians Would Be A Piece Of Cake With Jet Equipped

  • User: Gran Torino

Despite clearly being way past his prime, Gran Torino is still able to move faster than the eye can see thanks to his Jet Quirk, which allows the old geezer to push out air from his soles to move at exhilarating speed. One thing to know about Deku is that, while he may be a little shy and naive at the beginning of the series, he is still more than willing to jump into a dangerous situation if it means saving another person's life. This is something that Deku will do without even thinking about it, so possessing a Quirk that increases his mobility would make rescuing civilians a lot easier for the protagonist.

My Hero Academia's Heroes have some pretty unique and interesting quirks. These are the strongest of them all.

Considering Deku isn't exactly a physical powerhouse, it would also enable him to defend those in danger while still avoiding villainous attacks in the process. Since the Quirk itself is actually pretty basic in how it works, it also would have taken Deku barely any time at all to use it effectively, which certainly can't be said about One For All.

  • Users: Ragdoll / All For One / Shigaraki

The Search Quirk was originally owned by Ragdoll, a member of the Wild Wild Pussycats who showed up in the Forest Training Camp, before it was stolen away from her by All For One. The Quirk itself is extremely useful as it allows the user to obtain pretty much all the information they need about someone just by looking at them, including their Quirk ability, and even their weak points. This is a Quirk that would fit Deku like a glove when taking into account how much he loves to jot down notes about not just his opponents, but also his allies too, as he can be seen doing during the early exams.

Rather than needing to spend hours on end writing down information, Deku could simply take a quick glance at the person opposite to gather enough data needed to counter them in battle. On the other hand, he could also play a crucial supporting role for the heroes by relaying all crucial info back to them after analyzing what they are up against.

Muscle Augmentation

If Deku Bulked Up With This Deadly Quirk, He Could Overcome One Of His Biggest Weaknesses

  • User: Muscular

While Muscular may use his Muscle Augmentation Quirk to kill as many people as possible, if this dangerous ability were possessed by a hero, it would be extremely effective in taking down plenty of dangerous villains with only a few attacks. As the name implies, this Quirk will allow the user to pack on a lot more muscle once it's activated, turning them into a monstrous behemoth whose physical power and durability are enhanced to an absurd degree.

Deku faced the full force of this Quirk during the Forest Training Camp arc, but if the shoe were on the other foot, and if he actually possessed this Quirk himself, it would help to overcome one of his biggest weaknesses, his lack of physical strength. Deku's overwhelming power primarily comes from One For All, but the damage it inflicts to his body is extremely severe, so being able to bulk up, without needing to put his own life on the line, would have made him a formidable hero right from the get-go.

Stress

If Deku Could Control Stress, He Could Become A True Powerhouse

  • User: Re-Destro

It doesn't take much to get Deku feeling stressed, and, while this is obviously a negative emotion, it could have been turned into a positive thing if Deku had been in possession of the Stress Quirk, which is owned by Re-Destrp. The way it works is, once the user starts feeling a little worked up, they will begin transforming into a giant monster capable of causing all kinds of chaos thanks to their increased strength and speed. Because of how easily Deku can start feeling stressed when taking on a tough opponent, having this Quik would instantly grant him an advantage in battle by giving him a massive power boost when he needs it most.

As was shown in Re-Destro's epic duel with Shigaraki, this form is capable of receiving an incredible amount of damage, even from the most dangerous of opponents. As a result, Deku probably would have been able to deal with some of his tougher opponents much easier if this was a Quirk he was born with at the beginning of the series.

Zoom

The Perfect Quirk To Compliment Deku's Strategic Mind

  • User: Mei Hatsume

Zoom is a Quirk that does exactly what it says on the tin, as it gifts the host the ability to spot things from a long distance that the ordinary person would never be able to see. While Mei might use this to help craft and engineer her own suits and gadgets, for Deku, it would feed into his habit of analyzing every aspect of his target before going in for an attack, giving him the opportunity to plan out a strategy rather than running in like a headless chicken.

While it would obviously be highly useful for dealing with villains, Deku would also be able to use Zoom to keep a close eye on his fellow students to see how they are using their own Quirks in creative ways. Deku is someone who often gets a lot of inspiration from admiring those around him, so being able to detect every aspect of a person's latest attack or technique would prove extremely beneficial for him in enhancing his own fighting style.

Brainwashing

Deku Wouldn't Even Need To Get His Hands Dirty To Defeat An Opponent

  • User: Hitoshi Shinso

In the first few story arcs of My Hero Academia, Deku is primarily focused on becoming physically strong enough to defeat any villains that threaten society, but his mindset begins to shift at roughly the halfway point of the story. While he recognizes that being physically strong is important, Deku also starts paying a lot more attention to being able to actually save villains, rather than just defeating them. As seen with villains like Gentle and even Shigaraki, Deku doesn't actually want to kill these people, but instead, wants to show them that they don't need to continue traveling down the dark path of villainy they've already embarked on.

This is why Shinso's Brainwashing Quirk would perfectly complement Deku, since it would give him the opportunity to completely immobilize a villain without needing to beat them to a bloody pulp. Despite being utterly humiliated by this Quirk during the Sports Festival, ironically enough, Brainwashing would be an ability that Deku would probably be eager to get his hands on, considering how much it aligns with his own personality and outlook towards villains.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
