My Hero Academia: The Consequences of the Star and Stripe Arc
The Star and Stripe Arc marks a pivotal turn in My Hero Academia, completely changing the series' landscape going forward.
While some characters are born with abilities that are head and shoulders above their peers, others only discover the true extent of their power when pushed to their limits and are forced to overcome them or suffer dire consequences. These moments reveal hidden potential and unleash astonishing capabilities that raise the ceiling of the quirk’s user drastically. Here are some of the quirks that evolved when their daggers faced their greatest challenges.
5 Geten’s Ice Ply
Greatly Increases The Number Of Situations Where His Quirk Is Usable.
- Point Of Transformation: Occurred Offscreen
Geten Himura’s quirk originally gave him the ability to control ice in a certain radius, which is approximately the size of a small town. His control over ice is limited only by his imagination, as he can use it to increase his mobility, attack and defend, and shape it into whatever form he wants. Under unknown circumstances, his quirk underwent an awakening and evolved, as his major limitation was that there had to be ice readily available around him, and the odds of that in open areas were very low.
However, this evolution meant that he was able to manipulate water in his radius and change its physical properties to those of ice for his use. This greatly increased his offensive firepower as he has more ice, and it allowed him to keep up with Dabi in battle. It is for this reason that he was selected to be one of the nine lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front, despite being born with a very limited quirk.
4 Himiko Toga’s Transform
Gives Her Quirk An Extra Dynamic
- Point Of Transformation: Chapter 226
Toga and her Transform quirk are a main staple in the My Hero Academia series, as she has constantly wreaked havoc with it in conjunction with other members of the League of Villains. Her quirk is well known for its great utility, as it does not offer any form of offense or defense.
My Hero Academia: 8 Quirkiest Quirks and What They Do
While some quirks are straightforward enhancements of strength or speed, others are downright bizarre and unexpected.
However, during her clash with Curious and her group, she is backed into a corner, and her quirk evolves to allow her to use the quirk of whoever she transforms into if she has a strong emotional connection to them and also understands how the quirk works. She has only been shown to use the quirks of Ochaco and Twice.
3 Uraraka Ochaco’s Zero Gravity
Compensates For A Lot Of Her Limitations In Battle
- Point Of Transformation: Chapter 393
Zero gravity is a great utility quirk, but it has a lot of limitations. During Ochaco’s fight with Bakugo in the Sports Festival Tournament, she unveiled a glimpse of how the final form of her quirk might be, but ultimately it was no match for his pure destructive force. Her quirk allows her to bestow anti-gravity on whatever she touches as long as it weighs below three tons, but in order to become useful in such a large-scale war, she needed to overcome her limitations.
She awakened her quirk in the Final War during her battle with Himiko after she got stabbed, but she never seemed to falter. Upon the awakening, the weight limit that was originally imposed upon her was lifted, and the effects of her zero gravity could spread without her directly touching the target, as coming into contact with something that she had already touched was enough.
2 Katsuki Bakugo’s Explosion
Greatly Increases The Raw Energy Behind His Explosions
- Point Of Transformation: Chapter 406
Bakugo’s quirk is a great fit for his fiery personality, as it allows him to secrete nitroglycerin from his palms and ignite it to create fiery blasts of different proportions depending on just how much nitroglycerin he produces.
The more Bakugo gets worked up, the stronger he becomes, because he naturally produces more nitroglycerin when he sweats. During the height of the Paranormal Liberation Wa r, his quirk underwent an awakening, which allowed him to produce multiple explosions that reached much higher temperatures as a result of being more condensed. This awakening was a response to a tight situation where he needed to overcome his limits to save Deku from Tomura.
1 Shigaraki Tomura’s Decay
Allowing Him To Become Even More Deadly
- Point Of Transformation: Season 5, Episode 24
Decay, as the name implies, allows the user to reduce anything they touch to nothing, even if it is something that is not biodegradable or capable of decaying naturally. Over time, the rate of decay sped up, becoming instantaneous as Shigaraki grew stronger, but following his awakening after merging with All For One, the already dangerous quirk reached new heights.
This is what makes Shigaraki Tomura the biggest threat to society, as even the great Star and Stripe’s New Order quirk was no match for the sheer destructive force that fuels his Decay. He is now able to spread his Decay through any part of his body, not just his hands, and things that have been affected by Decay can also spread it, like a virus. With this, he was able to destroy the better part of a city just by touching the ground.
