Season 7 of My Hero Academia led up to the hardest battles Todoroki Shoto would face thus far. It’s no secret that the Todoroki household has been in disarray due to parental neglect, abuse, and the supposed loss of a child. The children of the Todoroki household have each faced their own troubles with their parents, and unfortunately, given their father's fame, they isolate their problems. This leads to the family's shutting down, with only Fuyumi attempting to bring them back together.

While it was known and expected that Endeavor would be the person to battle and defeat Dabi, now known as Todoriki Toya, Shoto instinctively knew Endeavor would not be able to fight his child, or at least seriously fight him. Endeavor had carried the weight of Toya’s supposed death with him as he continued his career and attempted to nurture Shoto into becoming the next Pro Hero who would surpass All Might.

Our whole family is here? Well, not great, but maybe it’s for the best cause my Great Glacia Aegir alone… might not’ve been enough to stop this… ever since round one back there Toya’s fire just kept growing.

Shoto’s role in Season 7 is to subdue Dabi with the assistance of Iida Tenya. Although they initially believed they were able to defeat him, Dabi’s vengeance was much too great, and Shoto’s Ultimate Move: Coldflame’s Pale Blade and Great Glacial Aegir, was used to subdue him. However, Dabi thus learned how to use Shoto’s Phospher attack, demonstrating his keen intelligence and ability to adapt.

My Hero Academia: What Happens to Bakugo After Graduation, Explained

Bakugo Katsuki has come a long way from being an obnoxious teenager. How far does he go as a Pro Hero after graduating from U.A High?

With Dabi now reinvigorated thanks to Shoto’s Phospher attack, he shoots off to Endeavor, determined to exact his revenge on the father that abandoned him for the “designer baby” achieved through his arranged Quirk Marriage. With this, it became a battle in which the entire Todoroki family needed to finish, as Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Rei attempted to call Dabi down as he readied for the explosion that would incinerate and kill all those around him. However, Shoto quickly returned to the battle and once again unleashed his Ultimate Move: Great Glacial Aegir, freezing Toya from the inside and saving him and his family.

Shoto’s Role in Season 8

The Hellish Todoroki Family Gets Closure, and Shoto Becomes His Own Person

Todoroki Shoto had a pivotal role to play in the previous season of My Hero Academia, so what more could be in store for him in Season 8 of the series? Though Dabi had finally been defeated, the Final War still continued to rage on with Himiko Toga and Uraraka’s battle and the upcoming battles with All For One, Shigaraki, Midoriya, and Bakugo.

In Episode 19 of Season 7, Shoto proceeds to pass out after defeating his older brother, only to regain consciousness during the final battle with Shigaraki Tomura. During this time, all available heroes were present for the battle, providing Midoriya with the sufficient support needed to end Shigaraki’s and All For One, who had taken over Tomura’s body, reign of terror.

My Hero Academia Tokoyami Fumikage
My Hero Academia: What Happens to Tokoyami After Graduation, Explained

Tokoyami Fumikage could easily be one of the strongest Pro Heroes. Given his formidable power and Hawks tutelage, where is he now after graduation?

In Season 8 of the series, Shoto’s role is to define the person he wants to become. In Chapter 426: The Hellish Todoroki Family - Final, the Todorokis finally gain some closure, as Dabi is alive and receiving medical attention at a secure hospital. Here, Endeavor apologizes for all he has done, taking responsibility for his actions and announcing his retirement as the Number 1 Pro Hero. During this meeting, Shoto and Toya finally connect as brothers, discovering they enjoy the same food: soba.

Old Man! Mom! I have Class A by my side, so I’ll be fine! I’m on the path to become who I wanna be!

As the years passed by, Shoto continued his education at U.A. High School; however, this time, he enjoyed his experience with his classmates, no longer burdened by his father. After eight years, Shoto is shown to grow fully into himself and is no longer living in his father's shadow, as he has effectively proven his worth and strength.

Shoto’s role in the Final Season serves to illustrate his substantial healing and personal growth from his teenage years. When Shoto declared his intention to become his own individual in Chapter 426, he substantiated this goal by diligently addressing various incidents both day and night. Although it was Endeavor's aspiration for Shoto to surpass both himself and All Might, Shoto manifested his strength and determination by achieving the status of Number 2 Pro Hero on the Hero Billboard Chart JP.

  • After becoming the Number 2 Pro Hero, Shoto realizes there's more to life than hero work.
  • Shoto continues to visit Toya’s alter after his death.
  • Shoto engages in a new hobby, making bowls and chopsticks to enjoy soba.

Consequently, Shoto exemplifies that, despite his challenging past and familial circumstances, he has become the individual he aspires to be, no longer living in the shadow of his father's ambitions. This period also marks Shoto’s introduction of a personal hobby, having realized that there is more to life than merely fulfilling the duties of a hero, thereby underscoring the extent of his development.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
