The dragon queen and the current No.42 Pro Hero, Ryuko Tatsuma is a hard-to-miss character in the My Hero Academia series. She is one of the few characters who is not driven by greed, glory, or ego but makes it her life's mission to help those who need it.
She is also a strong leader and understands how important teamwork is, she enjoys mentoring young heroes and took Nejire, Ochaco and Tsuyu under her wing to train them to fight against extremely strong villains. Ryuko is also someone, just like most of her peers, who puts the needs of others before herself and is willing to take the risks to protect those who can't protect themselves.
If You Could Undo One Death in My Hero Academia, Who Would You Choose?
Honestly, I'd probably have to go with Stain or Toga, as I believe they were both villains who could have been something totally different. It would have been nice to see them grow from their pasts in some way shape or form, even as unrealistic as that seems for what they had done. Toga in particular was just so young, it felt rather tragic that she ended up where she did and then her decisions ultimately led her to die at such a young age. In both of these characters, "good" was showcased in them on more than one occasion, which is truly the type of villain that I enjoy in storytelling.
The Fearless Leader And Dragon Queen
A Pro Hero And With An Extremely Powerful Quirk
As an experienced hero, Ryuko is able to use her leadership, resilience, and raw power to deal with high-risk situations. Thanks to her quirk known as Dragon, she is able to transform into a huge dragon with enhanced strength, power and durability. Her outfit also has the ability to transform with her so she doesn't lose her clothes in the transformation process. In her human form, she still portrays dragon-like features with her reptilian jagged teeth and eyes. Even with such a fearsome quirk, Ryuko is a gentle person and always keeps her composure when it comes to dire situations. She is also easily saddened if she hears that someone has been treated unfairly.
There's a child in need out there. That's what matters most.
Ryuko also specializes in rescue missions, with years of experience under her belt, she is able to take control of a situation that requires delicate yet quick actions. She is mostly seen rescuing civilians from danger, which showcases her balance of raw power and intellect. The gentle dragon is not so gentle if the situation calls for it. She also played a vital role during the Paranormal Liberation War Arc and joined the No.1 Pro Hero, Endeavor, to fight the upgraded version of Tomura Shigaraki while he was in the air. Even though she got knocked out, she was still able to hold her ground. However, just like all heroes, she also has her limits when it comes to fighting overpowered villains and too much strain on her quirk may cause her to tire out quickly.
How Strong Is She In Dragon Form?
There's No Holding Her Back As She Goes All Out
In her dragon form, Ryuko is quite indestructible as blunt attacks do little to almost no damage to her rugged skin, she was also able to withstand blows from Shigaraki, who was many times stronger than she was in his evolved form. Ryuko also has tremendous strength in her dragon form as she is able to land powerful grapples and smash attacks on opponents. She is also able to use her wings to fly. Apart from these, she also has obvious dragon-like characteristics, such as claws to use for slash attacks. Because of her massive size in dragon form, she specializes in taking down giant or physically large opponents.
Ryuko's character could also be a nod to dragons as it is a recurring theme in many anime, and if there are quirks that can transform humans into mythical creatures or animals in the My Hero Academia series, why not a dragon? In the end, it is not just her ability to transform herself into a dragon that makes her stand out the most, but much like her peers, it's her dedication and unwavering resolve to protect the innocent.
She is a reminder to all heroes that, apart from pride and ego, humbleness and humility are also just as important when it comes to being a pro hero. While Ryuko does not get enough screen time in the series, her support for the heroes is immense, as the humble yet powerhouse of a pro hero.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
