If My Hero Academia makes another excursion into the world of gaming, a turn-based strategy game could be a surprisingly good next move. My Hero Academia has already seen a few notable games, which is unsurprising considering what a phenomenon the series became. Even though the story has ended, there's still a good chance that more games will come from the franchise in the future. If it does, then a little more experimentation with the games could yield excellent results. A turn-based strategy game based on the series might sound unusual, but it could prove to be an excellent fit.
While Fortnite's My Hero Academia crossover likely helped get some new eyes on the series, MHA also has video games of its own. As one may expect from a shonen anime with plenty of thrilling fight scenes, My Hero Academia has mainly focused on fighting games, particularly the One's Justice titles. There is also the more recent My Hero Ultra Rumble, a battle royale game where players compete in teams of three with a selection of heroes and villains from the story. My Hero Academia still has plenty of potential for more video games, even though the main story has already concluded.
One Piece Odyssey's RPG Approach Should Be More Common For Anime Games
The JRPG genre is a surprising direction for One Piece Odyssey, but it’s one that could benefit many other licensed anime games to come.
A Turn-Based Strategy Game Could Be My Hero Academia's Best Next Move
My Hero Academia's Premise Works For a Tactical Strategy Game
My Hero Academia following in XCOM's footsteps in the strategy genre could be the right step for its next video game. While My Hero Academia has a lot of great fights, the show itself emphasizes that there are several facets to hero work. In addition to fighting villains, rescuing people is also brought up as an important duty. This was made clear even at the beginning of the series. A tactical game would be able to offer both tasks in a way that past My Hero Academia games could not. A turn-based strategy approach could showcase the full array of MHA's hero work.
MHA's Cast Could Fit a Turn-Based Strategy Game Well
A turn-based strategy title could provide many roles for My Hero Academia's heroes to fill. Characters with straightforward combat-focused powers like Deku and Kirishima would excel as frontline fighters, focusing on dealing damage. Meanwhile, heroes whose abilities emphasize mobility or support, such as Sero and Yaoyorozu, would excel when it came to rescuing and protecting civilians. There are also characters whose abilities are flexible enough for both roles, such as Bakugo and Uraraka. My Hero Academia has a wide selection of characters with unique and interesting quirks. That would give players a lot of room for creative team combinations and plans in a strategy game.
Turn-Based Strategy Isn't Common Territory For Anime-Based Games
A turn-based strategy game would have another advantage. Games like One Piece Odyssey have shown that shonen anime can effectively transition to an RPG format. However, a tactical strategy game would be relatively uncharted territory for the genre. It helps that My Hero Academia is quite well-equipped to handle such a game thanks to its cast and theme. This would carry the significant benefit of ensuring that such a game will stand out among the competition due to its uniqueness. My Hero Academia fans and turn-based strategy fans could each end up finding a new interest if this game came to pass.
A turn-based strategy approach could showcase the full array of MHA's hero work.
My Hero Academia could benefit from a turn towards turn-based strategy in a future game. My Hero Academia's future in gaming is still unwritten, and there's plenty of room for experimentation. Taking My Hero Academia to a genre that is rarely seen by shonen anime as a whole would be a daring decision. However, the series may be able to pull off such a move thanks to the tools at its disposal. A turn-based strategy game based on My Hero Academia could have the potential to be a surprise success.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
