The My Hero Academia manga might be over and done with, but the series still lives on in people’s hearts. With the anime adapting the last chapters of the Final War and Epilogue Arcs, there's still a little more My Hero Academia to go around until fans can move on from the series for good.

Series creator Kohei Horikoshi has been keeping busy since the manga's final chapter, releasing tons of amazing illustrations focused on fan-favorite My Hero Academia characters. Now, Horikoshi is back with a new illustration to celebrate the results of the My Hero Academia 'WORLD BEST HERO' Popularity Poll — and the results might surprise some fans.

The New Top 3 Has A Surprising Twist

Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto round out the top three, with the trio having earned over 3.4 million votes from fans across the world. That shouldn't surprise anyone, given how popular they are, but what is surprising is where they placed in the poll. Shoto came in at 3rd with 630,398 votes, and while many would expect Bakugo to occupy the number 2 spot, that actually belongs to Deku with 1,217,357 votes. That means that everyone's favorite hot-head came out on top with 1,647,611 votes.

Bakugo and Deku were the only characters to reach 1,000,000 plus votes. While Deku's 1.2 million isn't anything to sneeze at, Bakugo really pulled ahead in this one. It's safe to say that, as much as fans still love Deku, Bakugo's arc throughout the series — especially in the final arc — really resonated more with readers. The rest of the top 10 played out as most would expect, but there were some surprise additions and omissions there.

The biggest surprise is the lack of All Might in the top 10. Although the former #1 hero is still one of My Hero Academia's most recognizable characters, his diminishing role as the series went on definitely affected his popularity among fans. All Might still managed to place 12th in the overall rankings with 107,060 votes, so fans shouldn't feel too bad. The most surprising addition to the top 10 has to be Neito Monoma, the former Class 1-B standout whose popularity poll ranking mirrors his Hero Billboard Chart ranking by the end of the series.

Here's what the full top 10 looks like:

Toga (13th), Kaminari (14th), and Shinso (15th) rounded out the rest of the top 15. Other fan favorites, like Tsuyu (26th), Mirko (23rd), Mirio (21st), and Ida (18th), all managed to get a decent amount of votes. Even Mineta, who has his fair share of haters out there, managed to land inside the top 50 (43rd).

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
