My Time at Sandrock: How to Get Petrified Wood

Players can collect Petrified Wood by chopping down Large Deadwood found in the Eufaula Desert. This region can only be reached via the Shonash Canyon Bridge west of Sandrock.

Crossing this bridge isn't as simple as it sounds. Events in the main story lead to its destruction, and naturally, players will have to repair the Shonash Canyon Bridge as part of their duty as a builder. The main quest players need to complete to reach this point is called In Trusses We Trust, which comes right after the Belly of the Beast quest. Speak with Heidi to get the bridge repair job going.

Once the bridge is repaired, players will be able to cross over to the other side and start chopping down Large Deadwood. These are incredibly tough, requiring at least an Iron Axe or stronger in order to be damaged. This durability is reflected in their use as parts for Chromium tools and a couple of Chromium weapons, namely the spear and Super Shock Shield.

Petrified Wood must be processed at a Civil Processor, where it can be turned into either boards or sticks. Keep an eye out for commissions at the Commerce Guild, as some Sandrock may request bundles of Petrified Wooden Sticks.

As weird as it sounds, Petrified Wood (including its board and stick forms) will gladly be accepted by a number of Sandrock's residents when given as gifts. Hugo, Rian, Heidi, Jensen, Mi-an, and Yan are the most receptive of these, and it appears that Qi is the only one who will refuse gifts of Petrified Wood.

It's important to come armed and ready for a fight when exploring the western regions. Players might encounter Geeglers and other monsters while going on their Petrified Wood runs. While many enemies in the open world can be ignored, there may be times when combat is unavoidable, and it's best to come prepared when push comes to shove.
