It's always fun to track a character's win/loss record in an action anime like Naruto. Watching these fights unfold for plot reasons or for vital character moments is most important, but when fans rewatch Naruto, they want a new angle. To measure how strong and successful these characters ended up being, fans of anime like Naruto will start keeping score, as though they were watching a sport. The members of Team 7 might not treat ninja combat like a sport, but viewers are welcome to.
The end results may not be that surprising when everything is tallied up. Weaker, side characters like Tenten, Hinata Hyuga, and Kiba Inuzuka hardly ever fight and often lose in humiliating fashion, or need rescue. Characters like Shikamaru Nara and Rock Lee have more mixed to positive results, while a certain handful of Naruto cast members are far ahead of the curse. As expected, the top performers with the highest win rate tend to have the best jutsu and plenty of plot armor to spare.
Naruto: The Unique Ability Of Each Hokage, Ranked
The unique abilities of each Hokage stand out, from Hashirama's Wood Style to Naruto's Six Paths Sage Mode.
Itachi Uchiha Tends to Escape Battle Without Suffering Serious Injuries
Itachi Only Lost When His Disease Caught Up to Him
Itachi Uchiha may rank lower than some other Uchihas when it comes to win rates, but that's no reason to dismiss this character. Itachi defeated relatively few named characters in the Naruto anime, but by the same token, he suffered few defeats, either. He did make a tactical retreat with Kisame when Jiraiya showed up to rescue Naruto and Sasuke in that hotel, though that feels like a partial defeat at most. In many battles, Itachi either wins or leaves on his own terms, so his losses are few.
Itachi also slew an unknown number of his fellow Uchihas in that infamous family massacre. The casualties included Itachi's mother and father, Fugaku and Mikoto, who were accomplished ninjas in their own right. Fans may also recall that in his first on-screen appearance, Itachi defeated both Kurenai Yuhi and Kakashi Hatake with genjutsu alone, demonstrating his prowess with that bloodless fighting style. Itachi also casually defeated his brother Sasuke in that hotel hallway clash before Itachi allowed himself to die in the rematch years later.
Obito Uchiha Dominated the Battlefield With His Tobi and Madara Personas
Obito's Kamui Made Him Nigh-Untouchable in Battle
Obito Uchiha is one of several members of this Sharingan-wielding clan to rank highly with win rates, which may not be a surprise. Between their famous dojutsu and typical plot armor, members of the Uchiha clan tend to win or at least survive their many battles. Obito is among them, with him suffering only a few notable losses. One was when he was crushed nearly to death under that boulder as a genin, but after Obito met Madara, his win rate soared.
7 Strongest Kage In Naruto (Not Including Hokage)
Konoha has had many powerful Kages. There are still many strong Kages from outside of Konoha in Naruto.
Obito got a serious power-up and went by names such as Tobi and Madara, easily defeating various ninjas from behind his many masks. He even took down two Root members, Foo and Torune, with total ease and didn't even fear a chakra beetle attack. Obito's impressive win/loss ratio can also be credited to his frequent use of Kami, allowing him to teleport parts of his body to seem intangible. Only in the end did defeat and death corner Obito, with him giving his life to help Team 7 take down the real villains.
The Six Paths of Pain Only Lost at the Very End
The Talk Jutsu Helped Pain Become a Gracious Loser
The Six Paths of Pain only fought in the classic Pain Arc, but that was all the time Pain needed to rack up a stellar win ratio. Although most of Pain's victories were undone when Nagato was convinced to revive his many victims, those wins still count. Pain succeeded where many Naruto villains failed, outright killing major cast members like Kakashi Hatake single-handedly. Pain was also the one who defeated and killed Jiraiya during their fight in the Hidden Rain Village.
The Six Paths of Pain defeated the entire Hidden Leaf Village and killed most of its defenders, with Tsunade and Sakura Haruno ranking among the few survivors. If fans want to get technical, they might even count the fact Pain temporarily captured and defeated Naruto himself on the field of battle. Pain declared the nine-tails jinchuriki captured, and Naruto needed a little help from Hinata to escape that predicament.
Sasuke Uchiha Thrived in Shippuden With His Many Techniques and Traits
Sasuke Felt Like Every Uchiha Rolled Into One
Sasuke did suffer a painful defeat early in the Naruto anime, with him nearly dying inside Haku's crystal ice mirror array. He also failed to defeat Gaara during the Chunin Exam Arc and the following Operation Konoha Crush. Otherwise, Sasuke's record looks pretty good, with him either scoring astonishing victories against powerful foes or escaping the wrath of even stronger ones. And while Itachi effectively handed Sasuke the win in their final showdown, it's still technically true that Sasuke won the duel.
5 Things Naruto Does Better Than Every Other Shonen Anime
These areas are where Naruto absolutely dominates all shonen anime. No one comes close.
Sasuke kept powering up all throughout Naruto, allowing him to defeat the Sound Genin, Yoroi Akado, and even Naruto himself before Shippuden even started. Then, after the time skip, Sasuke's true rampage began as he took down the likes of Deidara, Itachi, Killer B (in a sense), and even Danzo Shimura and Orochimaru. As for fighting his rival Naruto, Sasuke tended to slightly dominate or at least strike even with Naruto, which is saying a lot. Naruto is the glorious shonen hero with boundless power, so the fact Sasuke could break even so often is worth respect.
Naruto Uzumaki Kept Getting Stronger and Won World-Changing Battles
Naruto Also Relied on Plot Armor to Make It Through
It's common for the protagonist in anime like Naruto to build up an excellent track record as a fighter. Naruto Uzumaki may have suffered some losses or needed someone to bail him out of trouble at times, but otherwise, his record speaks for itself. Naruto had some early fumbles, such as freezing up when tow Mist chunin attacked during the Land of Waves mission, but otherwise, Naruto does quite well. He effectively defeated Zabuza with a talk jutsu before scoring an upset victory over Kiba Inuzuka. Naruto also fought Gaara to a draw and won a personal battle with more talk jutsu.
Like his eternal rival Sasuke, Naruto enjoyed even more victories in the Shippuden anime, where his jutsu and plot armor became nearly impossible to overcome. Naruto couldn't properly defeat the fake Itachi, but he did defeat Pain when no one else could, and he also overwhelmed Kakuzu with his Rasenshuriken. Naruto also won against Obito Uchiha in the final war, and he played a central role in Kaguya Otsutsuki's downfall as well.
Madara Uchiha Defeated Hundreds of Ninjas in the Final War
Only Black Zetsu's Betrayal Could Halt Madara's Rampage
No ninja has a more impressive battle record than the supervillain Madara Uchiha himself. He did suffer a shocking and even humiliating loss when Black Zetsu betrayed him on Kaguya's behalf, but otherwise, Madara seems untouchable. In the days of yore, Madara defeated many members of the Senju clan, and then he seemingly returned from the dead to rack up more wins in the present day. Madara did have to wait until late in the anime to even get started, but he made up for lost time in ways the anime fandom will never forget.
It was Madara who took on the entire shinobi coalition with little more than his fists, massacring scores of ninjas with casual effort at most. That alone gives him the best win/loss record in the Naruto anime, and then there's the matter of named characters. Madara confronted and defeated the assembled Kage, which is truly astonishing, and he never actually lost to Naruto Uzumaki. It may seem underwhelming for Madara's winning streak to end with his failure to defeat Naruto, but given Naruto's plot armor and Black Zetsu's betrayal, it's understandable. And in return, Naruto couldn't defeat Madara either, even as the near-unbeatable shonen protagonist.
