The Rasengan is one of the most iconic techniques in Naruto, which Naruto Uzumaki evolved and perfected throughout the years. Besides Naruto, several ninjas can also use Rasengan, from Jiraiya and Minato to Konohamaru and Boruto, each creating unique variations. The most recent one, and probably the strongest, is Boruto’s Rasengan Uzuhiko.
With so many characters wielding the Rasengan, Naruto fans often wonder why Sasuke Uchiha has never used it, despite his exceptional chakra control and combat intelligence. Instead of learning Rasengan, Sasuke learned and mastered Chidori, which aligns perfectly with his lightning affinity. Still, one can’t help but wonder whether Sasuke ever considered adding Rasengan to his arsenal.
Naruto: How Naruto Uzumaki Created The Rasenshuriken
Here's a look at how Naruto created the Rasenshuriken.
Sasuke Has Never Used Rasengan
Sasuke’s Signature Jutsu Is Chidori
- No one taught Rasengan to Sasuke.
- Sasuke fights Naruto with Chidori.
Years have passed since Naruto ended, yet Sasuke Uchiha has never once used the Rasengan nor attempted to learn it from Kakashi or any other ninja who can use Naruto’s iconic technique. Even in the Boruto series, Sasuke was never shown using the Rasengan, sticking instead to his signature Chidori and other lightning-based jutsu and genjutsu powered by his dojutsu.
Sasuke has never once considered learning Rasengan from anyone, even after he became Boruto Uzumaki’s master. While Boruto has also created a powerful variant of Rasengan, Uzuhiko, Sasuke remains unchanged, almost as if the writers are deliberately avoiding giving him a technique so closely associated with his ultimate rival, Naruto. After all, it would be redundant if these rivals were able to use the same signature move.
Interestingly, in Naruto Shippuden Episode 215, around the 13-minute mark, there was a brief scene where Sasuke was shown using Rasengan while Naruto was using Chidori. It was a “what-if” scenario imagined by Naruto, thinking that their roles could have been reversed under different circumstances. It was an intriguing episode, despite the scene only lasting for three seconds.
Sasuke Could Learn Rasengan If He Tried
Sasuke Has Exceptional Chakra Control
- Sasuke is a fast learner, according to Kakashi.
- Chidori fits Sasuke more than Rasengan.
Sasuke Uchiha is incredibly gifted when it comes to chakra control, dojutsu, and ninjutsu in general. At such a young age, he was deemed a genius, capable of mastering complex techniques such as Chidori. Even Kakashi acknowledged how fast Sasuke learned the jutsu, which speaks volumes about his extraordinary talent. His Uchiha blood was also one of the reasons why he is exceptionally skilled in almost every aspect.
Thus, in theory, Sasuke Uchiha could certainly learn Rasengan if he wanted to. With his exceptional chakra control, generating a ball of Rasengan in his hand won’t be difficult at all. If Kakashi was able to use it, Sasuke, who is far more talented in chakra control and ninjutsu, would have little trouble mastering the Rasengan himself. Of course, using it effectively and efficiently would require more time.
This is the path I walk on. Not you or anyone can change that.—Sasuke Uchiha
Meanwhile, there is a common misconception when it comes to Sasuke’s ability to learn Rasengan with Sharingan. Many fans believe that Sasuke can simply use Sharingan to copy Rasengan, but that’s not possible at all. The Rasengan requires no hand signs, meaning it cannot be learned through visual copying alone. Perhaps the most important thing in learning Rasengan is knowing its mechanics, especially the method of rotating and compressing the chakra precisely.
Sasuke Doesn’t Need Rasengan
Sasuke Has More Jutsu Than Naruto
Sasuke is one of those ninjas in Naruto who possesses an impressive set of powerful jutsu. In fact, Sasuke has more techniques than Naruto at his disposal, making him more versatile and unpredictable in combat. Hence, Sasuke doesn’t really need to learn Rasengan for he can simply rely on other powerful jutsu to fight his opponents.
On the flip side, it would have been compelling to see how Sasuke’s elemental affinities could merge with Rasengan, potentially creating a unique variant in the process. He could have used this during his final duel with Naruto, turning their climactic battle into an even more explosive confrontation. Just imagine Naruto’s reaction if Sasuke conjured a Rasengan out of thin air.
Regardless, as long as Sasuke is still around, there’s always a chance that fans might one day see him unleash a Rasengan. If it’s not him, then it could be Sarada who would incorporate fire or lightning with the Rasengan, creating her own unique variant.
