This article contains spoilers from Naruto.

When it comes to the most popular anime series all over the world, Naruto is always going to be up there with the very best. Naruto is one of the biggest anime series that played a significant role in making this form of media more mainstream. Along with One Piece and Bleach, it was part of the big three, and it can be said that in the West, Naruto had the greatest influence out of the three up until the moment of its end.

Even almost 9 years after its conclusion, Naruto is still talked about in the way it was when it was airing. This anime series is absolutely brilliant, beloved by people of all ages, whether young or adults. While it has ended, the Naruto series still has a lot of potential. The main story of Naruto wrapped up almost a decade ago, but fans know that it continues with Boruto to this day.

Unfortunately, Boruto has not had the desired impact and is largely seen as a failure of a sequel by most fans. Still, the world of Naruto has a lot of potential, and after about 9 years following its conclusion, it is time for Naruto to return with a worthy anime.

  • A New Series Could Be Set In The Blank Period

The Naruto series by Masashi Kishimoto ended in 2014 and the anime followed suit just a few years later in 2017. Shortly afterwards, the Boruto series began, and as fans know already, it did not have the desired effect, running for a few years before being put on hold by Studio Pierrot. Since then, the entire franchise has been absent from the anime scene, and that is quite a shame. Naruto has tremendous potential, and it is one of the most popular anime series in the entire world. In comparison, even Dragon Ball had its own return with Daima earlier in 2024.

You don't understand a thing. For you are no ordinary shinobi. You're even a little different from Jinchuriki, those who host Bijuu inside them. You are human, and yet, if anything, you're more similar to me and Jura. — Kurama to Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto

Naruto possesses too much potential to be sitting on the sidelines and not giving the fans new content. It is incredibly profitable for Shueisha, as well as for Studio Pierrot. At the same time, fans also know that it is a brilliant story that still has a ton of potential, given the vast world that Kishimoto set up.

Naruto's return would be a win for both fans and those in charge of making the anime as well. One thing that fans want is for Naruto to get its new standalone anime series. While Boruto is great and will most likely return someday with the adaptation of Two Blue Vortex, fans would rather get a new Naruto anime.

Naruto Deserves A New Anime To Replace Boruto

Naruto Deserves A New Anime To Replace Boruto

While the Boruto series has certainly been exciting in parts, the way it has handled the old cast of Naruto is nothing short of shameful. Boruto has failed as a sequel to Naruto, even though it does some things very well. The amount of disrespect that the series has shown to both Naruto and Sasuke, and the way that it has practically ignored 90% of the old Naruto cast, just goes to show that it is truly not worthy of being the real successor of Naruto. Most Naruto fans acknowledge this, and at the same time, appreciate the things that it has done with the new generation.

This isn't a tale about a boy who aims to become Hokage. That was my dad's story. This is none other than my story! — Boruto Uzumaki, Boruto Chapter 1

Of course, as a standalone series, Boruto would still be an exciting watch for any anime fan. But, as a sequel to Naruto, there are many things that it fails at accomplishing, and that is why Naruto deserves a new standalone anime. When it comes to a Naruto anime, there are two approaches that could be taken. The first is a new anime series that is set after the events of Naruto Shippuden.

This would work quite easily because there is a giant timeskip between the end of Shippuden and the beginning of Boruto.

With over 10 years in between, a new Naruto anime could easily fit here. The other approach would be to remake the Naruto anime from the beginning, which is also an exciting option.

A Naruto Sequel Would Be The Best Case Scenario

The best-case scenario for any Naruto fan would be the series receiving a new anime with Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi as the main characters once again. This would mean that the series would go back to the end of Naruto Shippuden and continue from there onwards. Between the end of Shippuden and the beginning of Boruto, there is about a decade that is known as the blank period. Fans do not know what happened during this time period and how Naruto, Sasuke, and all the others grew.

There were most certainly powerful enemies for them to face during this time as well, and that is something that could be explored in the new Boruto series. Kishimoto could also get involved in this and give some exciting new ideas to Studio Pierrot, allowing them to create a phenomenal series with powerful enemies for Naruto and Sasuke that the fans would enjoy. In some ways, this could be very similar to Dragon Ball Super. As fans know, Dragon Ball continued its journey after the conclusion of the main manga, with Toriyama's involvement on the side. Super was certainly not as great as the original Dragon Ball, but it was still very fun and remains iconic to this day. Naruto could do something similar with a new anime series if Kishimoto is willing to get involved once again.

Naruto Could Also Get An Anime Remake Like One Piece

Naruto Could Also Get An Anime Remake Like One Piece

The other approach would be for Naruto to get an anime remake, similar to One Piece. At this point, the Naruto anime is very old. It began its run in 2003, which makes it 23 years old at the moment. It is also laden with filler, with about half of the series being made up of filler, which is certainly an inconvenience for the fan. There are also episodes with bad animation, and the sound design is obviously outdated.

A new Naruto remake anime would be absolutely brilliant and fans know that it was teased for the 20th anniversary, where a clip featuring a newer animation style for Naruto was revealed. One Piece, a rival series to Naruto, is getting its own anime remake by WIT Studio, at some unknown point. Work on it has been ongoing, and if One Piece gets such treatment, then fans know for a fact that Naruto deserves it as well. A new Naruto anime would reignite all the interest in the franchise and take it to new levels. Fans know very well that they deserve the best version of Naruto, and while the old one still has its charm, it would be fun to see a new approach to this story by a younger anime staff that fans will most certainly enjoy.
