NBA 2K23's file size is out of control, especially on new platforms like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. NBA 2K23 released earlier this month to mostly positive reviews, though still a far cry from the franchise's height. The game has been mostly well-received by fans as well, though there is one issue that some have taken issue with, and that is the game's absolutely gargantuan file size.

The Xbox Series X version of NBA 2K23 asks for "about 152.02 GB" of storage space. On PS5, the file size is said to be around 143 GB in size. The file size is considerably more manageable on PS4 and Xbox One. On PS4, it's around 47 GB, and on Xbox One, it's around 95 GB, which is still quite large but preferable to its Xbox Series X counterpart. The Nintendo Switch version of NBA 2K23, meanwhile, clocks in at about 52 GB, which makes it one of the largest games on the platform in terms of file size.

Video game file sizes have ballooned out of control in recent years, and it doesn't look like the issue is going to stop any time soon. Luckily, there is some hope for gamers with limited storage space. Some games have gotten updates that have actually lowered their absurdly high file sizes. An update for the Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale famously lowered that game's file size, and so it's possible that NBA 2K23 could get the same treatment, though fans shouldn't hold their breath.

NBA 2K23 Dunking As A Big Man

While not impossible, it's highly unlikely that NBA 2K23 will get an update that makes its file size smaller. In fact, it's possible that new content will come to NBA 2K23 that makes the file size even bigger, so fans have to keep that in mind, managing their console storage accordingly.

It will be interesting to see what the NBA 2K23 file size winds up being on mobile platforms when that version of the game launches. While NBA 2K23 is readily available on PC and traditional consoles, mobile versions of the game are also in the works, set to launch for Android devices and Apple Arcade on October 18. Mobile devices have a lot less space to work with than other platforms, and so it stands to reason that NBA 2K23 will be much smaller on Android and iOS, but specifics about those versions and their file sizes are hard to come by at the time of this writing.

NBA 2K23 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Android and iOS versions will launch on October 18.
