NBA 2K25 Player Surprises by Spending $32K on Microtransactions

On Twitter, user Troydan shared a video of an NBA 2K25 player who spent $32,000 on microtransactions. Most of the player's spending was on Virtual Currency (VC) packs of different amounts, the main ones being 700K and 450K VC, which cost $160.48 and $106.99, respectively. They purchased level skips several times, the Hall of Fame Pass for Seasons 6, 7, and 8, gaining access to rewards such as cosmetics, XP boosts, and additional VC to spend on the game. They also purchased offers for MyTeam, the popular NBA 2K25 card-collecting mode, for the same seasons.

The clip quickly went viral on Twitter, receiving comments from users impressed by the player's investment. Some were humorous, saying that he “paid the salaries of 2K employees all by himself.” Other reactions were critical of this aspect of the game, as microtransactions in NBA 2K games are a divisive feature. Although the community often argues against the amount of microtransactions in a game that is not free-to-play, this feature continues to drive 2K's revenue, according to the company's quarterly earnings reports.
