Custom shoes are a 2K staple, and NBA 2K26 features an extensive shoe customization system that lets you tweak the colors and appearances of major brands. Unlocking and buying custom shoes in NBA 2K26 is easier said than done, however.
The custom shoe creator is buried in a menu that's hard to find if you don't already know where to look, and picking up a custom pair of shoes for your player in MyCareer can be a real headache, depending on your chosen brand. It's an expensive investment, especially with this year's VC payouts. Here's how you can get a custom pair of shoes in NBA 2K26.
How to Unlock Custom Takeovers in NBA 2K26
NBA 2K26 introduces custom Takeovers that let you pick and choose your boosted stats and abilities, but they're hard to unlock.
How to Create Custom Shoes in NBA 2K26
The NBA 2K26 shoe creator is found on the main menu. Navigate to the Features tab past MyCareer, MyTeam, and all the major game modes. Then, select Shoe Creator at the bottom of the Roster list.
This will take you to the shoe creation screen. Choose a brand as a starting point, then pick a specific shoe to modify. You can customize every aspect of a given shoe, even minor details like heel straps and tongue colors.
Remember that custom shoes still cost VC, so don't pick an expensive shoe as a base if you're just starting out.
Where to Find Custom Shoes in NBA 2K26 MyCareer
Once you've designed a pair of custom shoes, you can purchase it from the associated shop in MyCareer. The game will tell you which store to pick up your shoes from after you finalize your design. Just load into MyCareer and visit the correct brand's store in the City.
Custom shoes appear to be glitched for many players, however, and certain shoe brands aren't available in MyCareer because of this. If you try to create a custom pair of Kobes, for example, they won't show up in any stores. To make things worse, some players are reporting that custom shoes aren't even showing up in their inventory after purchasing them from a shop.
It may be a good idea to avoid custom shoes altogether in NBA 2K26 for now, unless you're willing to risk some VC if they don't show up in your inventory after purchasing. In the meantime, you can focus on grinding your MyCareer quests to unlock Endorsements and other Merchandising goals.
