EA has confirmed that it will be shutting down the servers for NBA Live 19 on January 30, 2026. Many games under the EA umbrella are sports games with extensive online functionality. The downside to having such a big focus on online is that when the game's servers are inevitably shut down, significant portions of the game are effectively lost forever. This is devastating from a game preservation standpoint, but EA does at least give fans notice before it pulls the plug.
EA keeps a running list of games it is shutting down that is updated regularly, ensuring that gamers always know well in advance before a game is shut down. This way, anyone interested in revisiting these games has the chance to do so, potentially unlocking online-only achievements/trophies in the process.
Anthem Players Want an Offline Mode Before the Game is Shut Down For Good
Gamers call for EA to add an offline mode to Anthem before it shuts down for good.
The next EA game on the chopping block is NBA Live 19. To date the latest game in the NBA Live series of basketball games from the publisher, NBA Live 19's online servers are currently scheduled to be shut down on January 30, 2026. EA has changed server shut down dates in the past and could potentially do so again with NBA Live 19, but for now, January 30 is the day that fans should mark on their calendars.
Released in 2018, NBA Live 19 received mixed reviews from critics, but is considered one of the better NBA Live games of the 2010s. In fact, multiple NBA Live games that decade released to outright negative reviews, so NBA Live 19's 73 overall rating is actually quite good for the series. Unfortunately, the NBA Live series simply could not compete with the juggernaut that the NBA 2K series has become, but maybe it will return one day.
EA Games Shutting Down in 2026
- Anthem - January 12, 2026
- NBA Live 19 - January 30, 2026
NBA Live 19 is not the only EA game confirmed to be shutting down in 2026. So far, one other EA-published title has confirmed its servers will be shutting down next year, with Anthem servers closing on January 12. Based on how many games EA has shut down in 2025, it's highly likely that Anthem and NBA Live 19 will be joined by many more titles from the publisher. What exactly those games are remains to be seen, but fans of EA games should certainly keep an eye out for more announcements. At the very least, one has to imagine that the company's older sports and racing games that still have online servers are at risk of being shut down in 2026.
