Neil Druckman may have hinted at the possibility of a third game in The Last of Us series while discussing the show. While the second game faced its fair share of controversy, it was undeniably successful and left many fans wanting more after a somewhat open ending. There's still no official confirmation of a third The Last of Us game , but Ellie's story may not be over yet.
It's been five years since the second game was first released, but the franchise has still had a recent string of wins. In May, both The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 became some of Amazon's best-selling PS5 games as the second season of its HBO show wrapped up and propelled the franchise back into popularity. The show was renewed for a third season, and while Naughty Dog is gearing up for the release of another game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a third Last of Us title may not be off the table.

Neil Druckmann Suggests Naughty Dog Has Ideas for The Last of Us Part 3
In an interview with Variety, Druckmann said "other things are coming" after leaving the show and that the studio had "looked at ideas" for what could be in The Last of Us Part 3 immediately after wrapping up the second game. Ultimately, Naughty Dog decided to go with a new IP, but Druckmann said, "we have some other ideas that we’d like to explore" after the release of Intergalactic, which may be good news for Last of Us fans. Industry insider and leaker Daniel Ritchman has previously claimed that The Last of Us Part 3 has begun casting, even though the studio has been quiet about it, if that's true.
In an earlier interview, the Last of Us creator said he focuses mostly on one game at a time, as working on one game is already "all-consuming." Druckmann doubled down on that approach in the Variety conversation, saying Naughty Dog doesn't plan too far in advance, instead focusing on what's immediately in front of them. That means if The Last of Us Part 3 is real, it will likely be a while before fans hear official word of it.
As for Naughty Dog's upcoming release, there could be a long wait for that game. While leaving the HBO show gives Druckmann more time to focus on game development, an insider has said Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet may not come out before 2027. Additionally, Druckmann himself has said the title has a long way to go before it's ready. Still, the apparent Last of Us tease may be exciting news for fans as they wait for more.
