Netflix is losing by far its most popular game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition, on December 11. Two award-winning titles will also be pulled from the platform's library on the same date, with another 10 games being set to leave Netflix shortly beforehand.

First released in November 2021, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition faced widespread criticism for its poor technical state at launch. It was review bombed due to numerous bugs, performance issues, and missing songs that Rockstar had not re-licensed. Two years later, the remastered compilation received a mobile re-release in December 2023, developed by Video Games Deluxe instead of Grove Street Games. This version was received much better, in part because it included additional bug fixes and introduced a Classic Lighting mode that used shaders more faithful to the PS2 originals. The lighting improvements were most apparent in the San Andreas remaster, notably restoring the iconic orange hue from the 2004 game. As a result, the Netflix version is widely considered by fans to be the best iteration of GTA: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition to date.

Netflix's GTA: San Andreas remaster is scheduled to leave the platform's content catalog on December 11. According to unofficial estimates from AppMagic, this is by far the most popular game on the subscription service, having achieved 57.4 million downloads just ahead of its second anniversary. For context, Netflix Games' lifetime downloads currently sit at 396 million, as per the same source, indicating that GTA: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition is responsible for 14.5% of them, or one in seven.

While San Andreas won't get to celebrate its second anniversary on the service, it still lasted a whole year longer than the other two titles from the modernized trilogy, as GTA 3 and Vice City were both pulled from Netflix back in December 2024. Since all three games were originally added on the same day, San Andreas may have outlasted the others due to a renegotiated licensing deal between Netflix and Rockstar, possibly driven by the title’s strong download numbers. In addition to the popular remaster, Kentucky Route Zero and Twelve Minutes are also set to leave Netflix on December 11. This critically acclaimed award-winning duo has been part of the platform's content library since mid-December 2022.

Another Big Rockstar Game Coming to Netflix in December 2025

While the removal of GTA: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition will mark a big blow to the platform's content catalog, its impact will be softened by the arrival of the Red Dead Redemption mobile port. The iOS App Store lists the Netflix version of Red Dead Redemption as coming on December 4 as of this writing, but Rockstar recently clarified the port would actually arrive on December 2. Netflix subscribers will also be able to play the hit open-world Wild West game on select Android devices.
