One of Netflix's biggest shows could be getting a spinoff series featuring beloved characters. Debuting in 2022 to great reviews and stellar viewership numbers, Wednesday featured Jenna Ortega as the titular lead in a role many say was perfect casting. The series followed Wednesday Addams, daughter of the infamous Addams Family, who have been the subject of numerous film and TV adaptations.

The series was executive produced by Tim Burton, who also directed half the episodes of its first season, imbuing it with his signature style. Wednesday follows the title character as she navigates Nevermore Academy, the new school she is forced to attend after being expelled from a previous high school. The first season saw the character investigating a murderer and digging into her family's past at Nevermore. The show also featured numerous members of Wednesday's notorious family making appearances throughout the season, with the forthcoming episodes teasing their return. Her parents, Morticia and Gomez, are played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman, with Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, and Isaac Ordonez as her brother Pugsley. The show also featured Lurch and the family's disembodied hand, Thing.

While promoting season 2 of Wednesday with THR, series star Jenna Ortega, executive producer Tim Burton, and Netflix representatives delved into what is next for the show, ensuring more seasons are on the way and teasing plans for a potential spinoff that remains top secret. Wednesday Season 2 Will See More Of The Addams Family, Potentially Setting Up A Spinoff

Season 2 of Wednesday is heading to Netflix in August, with the first four episodes. It will then release the next four in early September, letting audiences mull over the events of the first batch of episodes before the season finale. The Season 2 trailer has already teased more of the Addams Family in the new episodes, with the same actors reprising their roles, with them now said to be series regulars. The new season will also introduce new family members, with Morticia's mother, Grandmama Hester Frump, playing a role in the story.

While plans for the spinoff series are under tight wraps and potentially still in very early phases of development, the groundwork could be laid with Wednesday Season 2. Following the show's success, Netflix likely wanted to capitalize on it, leaning into any ideas they could use to build on Wednesday. The Addams Family has already proven a successful IP on its own, making it perfect to take the established family into their own series. Ironically, Wednesday serves as a spinoff to the IP in its own right, now spawning a spinoff of its source material.
