AMD users with a Ryzen AI processor are in luck, as the tech giant released a new Radeon Software preview driver that includes support for AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF2) technology on AI-powered hardware. Although AMD Fluid Motion Frames entered the preview state in July, the latest update will allow more users to test it out before its full official release.

Often compared to Nvidia's Frame Generation technology, AMD Fluid Motion Frames uses AI to generate additional frames and reduce latency to give PC gamers an improved experience in different titles. Unlike AMD's FSR or Nvidia DLSS upscaling techniques, AMD Fluid Motion Frames can be turned on at the driver software level alongside AMD's Radeon Anti-Lag option. However, Fluid Motion Frames is exclusive to AMD Radeon preview drivers, which may not be stable as a full release. Fluid Motion Frames also require an AMD Radeon graphics card, such as the Radeon RX 7700 XT and the Radeon RX 6600, or an AMD processor with integrated Radeon graphics.

The new AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D processor is now available for PC builders to purchase through specific retailers in the US and Germany.

Although AMD's Ryzen AI 300 series processors are still fresh on the market, users will now have an additional option for gaming on them. According to a blog post by AMD, Fluid Motion Frames 2 is now available in a technical preview driver for Ryzen AI 300 processors, which will allow the driver to reallocate system resources with just a few option toggles. After downloading and installing the AMD Radeon Software preview driver on supported hardware, users can turn on AFMF2 by navigating to the Gaming tab and selecting the respective option. AMD's Variable Graphics Memory feature will also activate on Ryzen AI processors, which will allow users to convert system RAM to video RAM after a system reboot. This can be adjusted by going to the Performance tab, navigating to Tuning, and selecting the "Medium" or "High" preset options.

AMD used the graphically intense Cyberpunk 2077 as a benchmark for how AFMF2 would work on a Ryzen AI HX 370 processor. AMD claimed that, after turning on Fluid Motion Frames and FSR upscaling, Cyberpunk 2077 could run at up to 100 frames per second (FPS) at 1080p using a low settings preset. With Fluid Motion Frames and Variable Graphics Memory active, other titles such as Far Cry 6 and F1 23 reached over 100 FPS at 1080p.

Between the new Ryzen AI driver, and continued work on the Z2 Extreme processors for gaming tablets, AMD is looking to give users more ways to enjoy high-end PC gaming on the go. Only time will tell how AMD's Fluid Motion Frames technology will fare down the line.
