THQ Nordic just announced a new Darksiders game is in development. While its short, cryptic trailer didn’t reveal much, players can look forward to a new entry to the Darksiders franchise, which will be available on Playstation 5.
Darksiders is a post-apocalyptic modern fantasy game that follows the adventures of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as they navigate the complexities of a doomed Earth caught between the forces of Heaven and Hell. Most games in the Darksiders franchise follow the ordeals of different Horsemen in a series of stories that run parallel to one another, though Darksiders: Genesis was a prequel to the three main titles.
The 10 Best PC Games Like The Legend Of Zelda Series
The Legend of Zelda series has inspired countless generations of game creators from the indie scene to AAA. These are the best games like Zelda on PC.
After some fake Darksiders leaks over the years, THQ Nordic has finally revealed an official fifth entry to the series is in development. A new trailer debuted during the 2024 THQ Nordic Showcase began with ominous rumbling in a familiar, scorched chamber full of ash and magma. Suddenly, three skull-like statues ignite, revealing the Charred Council, who shout a single word in unison: “Horseman!” The game has been confirmed for Playstation 5, though it will likely come to PC and Xbox Series X|S, as previous entries are available on these platforms as well.
Games in the Darksiders Franchise
- Darksiders (2010)
- Darksiders 2 (2012)
- Darksiders 3 (2018)
- Darksiders Genesis (2019)
- Untitled Darksiders Game (TBA)
No official title for this Darksiders game has been revealed yet, nor does it have a release window of any kind. The main Darksiders games are action RPGs with puzzle elements, suggesting this new entry is more likely to be like the original trilogy, rather than a top-down action game like Darksiders: Genesis. It remains to be seen if the new Darksiders will follow the story of Strife as it ran concurrent to the original entry, or if it will finally act as a proper sequel to the 14-year-old cliffhanger from the first game. Regardless, Gunfire Games – the THQ Nordic subsidiary run by former devs from Crytek, the studio that made the original Darksiders before it went under – is developing this title as well.
Either way, fans of the Darksiders franchise can’t wait to find out. The trailer has already received tens of thousands of views and hundreds of comments not long after it was shared, with players speculating as to what the game will be about. The community seems to be split at the moment, with some hoping Strife gets his own solo game, while others want a proper sequel where all Four Horsemen are playable. However, a few fans fear this new project could be a remake of the first Darksiders, rather than a sequel or parallel game. Either way, players are eager to learn more and are happy enough to learn that a new Darksiders game is coming.
