Summary

  • Over 60 Xbox games have added 1,000 additional Gamerscore via new achievements.
  • Players can earn an additional 132,000 Gamerscore from these indie games in total.
  • While Xbox hasn't revamped its achievement system in some time, many players are still committed to boosting their Gamerscore whenever possible.

More than 60 Xbox games have received updates adding more achievements for players to unlock, totaling 2,000 available Gamerscore each. Ever since the Xbox 360, achievements have become a fun side activity for many in the Xbox community and an even bigger deal for achievement hunters.

The Xbox achievement system remained satisfying for much of the fanbase through the Xbox One's life cycle and into the current generation of consoles, but some have been wishing for a revamp. PlayStation's Platinum trophies, which award players a cherry on top for earning all of a game's other achievements, have become the subject of conversation within the Xbox community, with many wishing Xbox would adopt a similar feature. Despite light rumors from Xbox on the matter, no adjustments or changes have been made to Xbox's otherwise solid achievement system.

It seems some game studios are finding ways to gift Xbox players with the opportunity to earn even more Xbox Gamerscore from their already-released games. PureXbox pointed out that a batch of over 60 small indie titles have had recent updates adding an easy 1,000 Gamerscore on top of their original 1,000, for a total of 2,000 Gamerscore per game. These new sets of achievements are super simple, with many requiring players to simply progress through a game. Most of these new, easy achievements are worth large amounts of Gamerscore, with many of them granting 100-200 each. The grand total across all 66 games equates to 132,000 available Xbox Gamerscore for achievement hunters to snag.

While Xbox hasn't done anything to rework its achievement system, it still maintains strict regulations for game makers as they create their games' achievement lists. The vast majority of new achievements that are added to games are for new DLC, but this list of over 60 games seems to have added achievements related to the base game. Xbox permits studios to add achievements to a game no more than twice a year, even if the achievements aren't attached to new content. With this in mind, it's still possible for these games to pile on yet another 1,000 Gamerscore next year. Some big Xbox games have far exceeded 2,000 available Gamerscore, with Forza Horizon 4 housing over 3,000 Gamerscore, Sea of Thieves offering more than 5,000, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection home to an achievement list that totals a whopping 7,000 Gamerscore.

It's unknown just how high Xbox's Gamerscore ceiling is per game. As these are smaller indie titles, they aren't nearly as pricey as major titles and can serve as great Gamerscore boosts for hardcore Xbox achievement hunters.
