Summary

  • MindsEye, directed by Leslie Benzies, releases on June 10.
  • The game features shooting and driving similar to the GTA games, which Benzies worked on for years.
  • But while GTA is a massive open world game, MindsEye is focused on a more linear action experience.

MindsEye is an impressive-looking new action game set to launch on June 10 that should be of interest to fans of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto franchise. MindsEye was first revealed back in 2022, and it's just now nearing its release date. Originating as part of the ambitious Everywhere game platform, MindsEye is directed by former Rockstar exec Leslie Benzies and will be the first game he's shipped since Grand Theft Auto 5 launched all the way back in 2013.

Benzies was a key figure at Rockstar since the company's earliest days, serving as a producer on the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto 3 and playing major roles in subsequent entries in the blockbuster franchise. Benzies had a hand in many of Rockstar's other high-profile releases, including Manhunt, Bully, the first Red Dead Redemption game, and Max Payne 3. Benzies' departure from Rockstar and Take-Two in 2016 wasn't pretty, resulting in a years-long legal battle that didn't end until 2019.

Benzies' history of working on some of the most-beloved video games of all time has raised expectations for MindsEye. Releasing on June 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, MindsEye gameplay has painted a picture of a futuristic, sci-fi spin on GTA-like action, but in the form of a more linear action game experience as opposed to a massive open world. Graphically, MindsEye looks stellar, and it seems to feature a healthy mix of shooting and driving. It may not be the exact same as a new GTA game, but MindsEye should still appeal to fans of the franchise and could very well help fill the void left by GTA 6 being delayed to 2026.

MindsEye Has Serious GTA Vibes

MindsEye gameplay trailers have made the game look nothing short of an action-packed spectacle, though time will tell if it lives up to expectations. Benzies' track record is incredible and may make people expect too much from new studio Build a Rocket Boy's first effort. Then again, MindsEye could very well be a smash hit and go above and beyond what people are hoping to see from it. Luckily, the wait to find out if MindsEye lives up to Benzies' past work will be a short one, as the game's launch is right around the corner.

MindsEye is launching on June 10, and those that pre-order will get some extra goodies. MindsEye pre-orders get deluxe content at no added cost, including the Premium Pass (which includes a Horde Mode and new missions/challenges to be added in the months ahead), vehicle and drone skins, and a special "Future" skin for protagonist Jacob Diaz.
