ProbablyMonsters, a studio led by ex-Bungie CEO Harold Ryan, has announced the new first-person horror game Ire: A Prologue. Based on what's been shown of Ire: A Prologue so far, it looks like it will be yet another terrifying horror game for PC gamers to check out on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and it will likely greatly appeal to fans of Hideo Kojima's PT.

For the uninitiated, PT was a playable teaser for Kojima's canceled Silent Hills project. The first-person horror game had players moving through a looping hallway while being bombarded by terrifying images and disturbing sounds. Even though Silent Hills was canceled and PT was delisted, it had a profound impact on horror games, influencing many titles in the genre for years to come. Now it seems Ire: A Prologue is also following in PT's footsteps, but with some unique twists of its own.

New PT-Style Horror Game is Getting Great Reviews

A newly-released horror game that takes heavy inspiration from Hideo Kojima's PT is getting great reviews so far.

Ire: A Prologue is Launching on Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 28

Ire: A Prologue is set in 1986 on a ship stranded in the Bermuda Triangle. Players take control of a teenage girl named Emily, who has to unlock 13 doors on the ship all the while dealing with the threat of a deadly monster. Ire: A Prologue is said to take inspiration from 80s and 90s horror, and promises to be the start of a brand-new horror game franchise. Those intrigued by the game should note that Ire: A Prologue is scheduled to launch on October 28 on PC for Steam and the Epic Games Store, meaning genre fans will have a brand-new horror game to experience just in time for Halloween.

The fact that Ire: A Prologue is a first-person horror game isn't the only way that it takes inspiration from PT. Ire: A Prologue features a loop gimmick that is reminiscent of the classic Kojima horror experience, and its title also has some similarities to PT. Remember, PT was meant to be a "playable teaser" for a larger game, while Ire has the word "Prologue" as its subtitle, implying that might be the case for it, too. We already know that there are more Ire games planned that will expand the lore and feature new monsters, though one has to imagine that those plans will largely depend on the success of the first game.

Based on what's been shown so far, Ire: A Prologue looks plenty promising. It's one of the first two projects from ProbablyMonsters, with the other being a local co-op Switch game. It will definitely be interesting to see how both projects turn out when they launch later this year.
