A new entry in the LEGO Batman franchise, titled LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, has been announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, providing fans of one of DC's most famous superheroes with a new adventure. It has been more than a decade since the LEGO Batman series graced consoles and PC, but those fortunate enough to be attending Europe's biggest gaming showcase already have the chance to test out a playable demo.
There have been four official LEGO Batman video games produced already, with the original released in 2008 and the most recent available on consoles and PC, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, coming out in 2014. There has also been a more recent mobile-only release, The LEGO Batman Movie Game, in 2017, and the crime fighter also plays a big role in 2018's LEGO DC Super-Villains.

A New LEGO Batman Game is Coming
Appearing at Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase, Jonathan Smith, head of development at TT Games, called the upcoming adventure "the definitive essential Batman story," saying it will follow Bruce Wayne from his humble beginnings training with the League of Shadows, to fighting crime on the streets of Gotham City, and establishing himself as a figure of legend. There will be a combination of iconic moments that should be familiar to all fans of the Dark Knight as well as some deep cuts, and the game's story will incorporate storylines included in some of the best moments from Batman movies, television shows, comics, and video games.
Players will be able to suit up as Batman and traverse Gotham City in fun ways, including gliding through its skies and racing through its streets in the Batmobile. The game will be playable in solo mode or two-player co-op, and some of Batman's best friends will be along for the ride, including Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, Catwoman, Talia al Guhl, and Commissioner Gordon. Each will bring their own gear and special skills to the table, giving players a lot of variety in tackling the game's challenges and facing off against its foes.
Batman and friends will face off against a number of different enemies, and the trailer shows a mix of him fighting against generic foes, like street toughs and inmates, and some notable villains from the DC universe, including modern movie versions of The Joker and Bane. Information released by the publisher indicates that even more famous enemies will be involved, including The Penguin, Poison Ivy, and Ra's al Ghul, so players should expect a big rogues' gallery when the game launches in 2026.
