Due to complications caused by COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, Wizards of the Coast, distributor of popular card game Magic: The Gathering, has delayed the release of a new card set. The Magic: The Gathering set Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths was originally scheduled for release on April 24th, but has been pushed back in most regions for financial and distribution reasons.
At 2 PM UTC of April 2nd, 2020, Wizards of the Coast will release Ikoria's trailer and previews, the latter of which will be available until the 10th of the month. In China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, the set will actually launch one week early on April 17th, but in Australia and New Zealand, Brunei, Europe, Indonesia, Latin America, Malaysia, North America, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths won't see store shelves until May 15th.
In the announcement post on their website, Wizards of the Coast acknowledged the difficulties of running a game store during these turbulent times. As such, until June 1st game stores which are members of the Wizards Play Network, or WPN, are allowed to charge admission fees of up to $10 for tournaments held over Magic: The Gathering Arena. In addition, WPN stores will be receiving free reprinted packs of Mystery Boosters to sell upon reopening.
For now though, all in store tournaments are currently on hiatus. For anyone itching to play Magic, supporting a local game store in one of their online tournaments might be a good place to look.
Magic: The Gathering Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths is slated for release in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan on April 17th, and May 15th for all other regions.
