One of the last announcements at The Game Awards 2025 was the reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override, a brand-new Mega Man side-scroller and the first main series entry since 2018's Mega Man 11. Capcom's beloved Blue Bomber first hit the scene in 1987's Mega Man, which spawned a bunch of sequels and a number of highly successful sub-series. But despite how popular Mega Man is, especially with gamers that grew up with the franchise, it hasn't seen as much love in recent years as some of the publisher's other series.

Consider that from 1987 to 1996, we got Mega Man 1 through 8, and Mega Man 9 didn't come out until 12 years later in 2008. Then there was an eight-year gap between Mega Man 10 in 2010 and Mega Man 11 in 2018. The gap between Mega Man 11 and Mega Man: Dual Override is going to be even longer, but now fans can at least rest assured that the game is on the way.

Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection Has Online Multiplayer and New Quality of Life Features

The TGS 2025 Capcom Showcase includes an early look at the upcoming Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection and is new multiplayer and QoL features.

As announced at The Game Awards 2025, Mega Man: Dual Override will launch in 2027 for PC, PS4, Xbox, PS5, Switch, and Switch 2. A brief snippet of gameplay was shown, with the titular Mega Man moving through a side-scrolling world with rather animated and detailed backgrounds compared to some other games in the series. The art style doesn't look terribly far off from what was seen in Mega Man 11, but it does look a little sharper and busier.

Mega Man: Dual Override Trailer

There aren't a ton of concrete details on what all Mega Man: Dual Override is bringing to the table, but it's safe to assume it will largely be in line with other main series entries. This means that Mega Man: Dual Override will almost certainly give players the freedom to pursue themed bosses in any order to get upgrades that can, in turn, make some of the game's other stages and battles a little easier.

Mega Man: Dual Override isn't the only classic Capcom franchise that's making a comeback in the near future. Resident Evil Requiem was also at The Game Awards 2025, with Capcom dropping a new trailer that confirmed the return of fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy. Resident Evil Requiem has a February 27, 2026 release date, so fans will get to play it much sooner than Mega Man: Dual Override.

Capcom Confirmed the Return of Another Classic Franchise at Last Year's Show

This isn't the first time Capcom has confirmed the return of one of its classic franchises at a Game Awards show. In fact, The Game Awards 2024 included the shock announcement that Hideki Kamiya would be forming the new studio Clovers to work on a revival of Okami, Capcom's critically-acclaimed Zelda-like known for its striking sumi-e cel-shaded art style. The Okami sequel has no release window, so chances are Mega Man: Dual Override will be first to hit store shelves when it launches in 2027.
