In its latest financial report, Nintendo highlighted three big Switch games that are scheduled to launch later this year. While most of the attention is on the Switch 2, Nintendo is not done supporting the original console. The original Switch is one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time, and so, even with the Switch 2 on the horizon, there are still many games in the pipeline for the older hardware.

The original Switch is likely going to be supported for years to come with new game releases. Nintendo itself will continue publishing games for the original Switch, likely even after the Switch 2 console hits the market. In fact, it's highly likely that there will be multiple cross-gen Nintendo games released for both the original Switch and the Switch 2.

The full scope of Nintendo's cross-gen plans remains to be seen, but in the meantime, the company has highlighted three games that we know for sure are in development for the original Switch. Nintendo has reminded fans that they will be able to play Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, an enhanced version of the Wii U RPG, on March 20. Switch owners can also look forward to playing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A later this year, but both projects currently lack specific release dates.

Nintendo has not announced official release dates for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or Pokemon Legends: Z-A yet, but that will likely change sooner rather than later. A Pokemon Presents event is expected to take place on February 27, and it's highly likely that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will give fans a look at its gameplay and may even confirm its release date at the show. As far as Metroid Prime 4 goes, there's a chance the long-awaited FPS will get a release date announcement at the rumored February 2025 Nintendo Direct. Then again, insiders have suggested that the probable February 2025 Nintendo Direct will be primarily showcased on third-party games coming to the original Switch this year, so fans should keep that in mind.

There are plenty of rumors about Nintendo's plans for the original Switch, with some suggesting that the console still has at least one more big Nintendo release on the way. Time will tell, but regardless, 2025 should still be an exciting year for owners of the original Switch, even with the Switch 2's release date right around the corner.
