Developer Owlcat Games has just announced Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, its upcoming title based on the 2013 Pathfinder tabletop campaign of the same name, and an indirect sequel to last year's Pathfinder: Kingmaker CRPG. In a press release sent out by partner Paizo Games, Owlcat shared some of the features, story elements, and other improvements coming in Wrath of the Righteous.

Despite an initially rough launch, Pathfinder: Kingmaker found both acclaim and awards, which certainly contributed to Owlcat securing its funding for the next title in what is now the studio's Pathfinder series. According to developers, while Wrath of the Righteous isn't a direct continuation of Kingmaker, but it'll build off of the elements that made the first game so popular.

Wrath of the Righteous uproots players from their Kingmaker locale and brings them to the Worldwound, a new part of Golarion overrun by demons, where the game's story will follow a long-running conflict between fiendish monsters and mortals. Pathfinder players may already be familiar with the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path tabletop campaign, but Owlcat Games is promising that its Wrath of the Righteous CRPG will contain new characters, plots, and elements to engage both new players and veterans alike. "With our new game, we are taking everything that made Kingmaker enjoyable and building on top of it. We laid a solid foundation and are going to push the boundaries of the CRPG genre with our next title,” said Oleg Shpilchevskiy, Head of Owlcat Games studio.

Owlcat also got into a few specifics, revealing that at least two fan-favorite base classes, the Oracle and the Witch, plus the mythic progression system would all be implemented in Wrath of the Righteous. Both the player character and their companions can get extra powers from whatever mythic path the player chooses, and those include the path of the immortal lich, the path of the trickster, and the path of the angel. Another of Owlcat's goals for Wrath of the Righteous is to give it a distinctly different feel from Kingmaker, with settings that include "a. Demon-infested wasteland, besieged crusader cities, and the foul, twisted Abyss itself."

One most definitely good omen for Wrath of the Righteous is Chris Avellone's return as an advisor and support for the game's narrative team, as he also did for Kingmaker.  Paizo and Owlcat Games will be revealing even more class and character options in the future, and for now, Pathfinder fans will certainly have a good idea of what Owlcat is planning just based on its big reveal.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is in development for PC, although it has no release window yet.
