Rumors of a new Plants vs. Zombies game are escalating, as one investigative team claims to know the name, launch date, price, and available platforms for the supposed next chapter in the classic tower defense series. If the rumors are true, players may be able to dive back into the Plants vs. Zombies universe this fall.

The original Plants vs. Zombies marked a major success for PopCap games, quickly surpassing Peggle and Bejeweled as the developer's biggest hit. The game also earned high praise from fans and critics, even earning two nominations at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards, the precursor to The Game Awards, which is now held each December.

What a New Plants Vs Zombies Game Needs to Learn From PvZ 3

Plants vs. Zombies 3 didn't win over fans the way EA and PopCap hoped, but it's left the franchise with a lot to learn for the future.

Rumors of a Plants vs. Zombies comeback surfaced in March, following the Brazilian age rating of a project titled Plants vs. Zombies Reloaded. Now, new reports from Dealabs Magazine state that a new game is indeed coming this year. However, the investigative team behind that reveal states that the game will actually be called Plants vs. Zombies Replanted, and it's allegedly scheduled for release on October 23, 2025. There is no official word that this game exists, but the reporting source states that it will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC for about €10, or a little under $12 USD.

Plants vs. Zombies May Get a New Game in October 2025

It's not clear from the report what Plants vs. Zombies Replanted will look and play like. It is allegedly a "completely reimagined version" of the original tower defense game that was first released for PC in May 2009, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will return to that game's 2D format. Two successful games in the franchise have followed that format so far, but the Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare series has had three games of its own, utilizing the classic characters of the mainline series in a 3D FPS environment. Additionally, 2016's Plants vs. Zombies Heroes was a one-on-one digital trading card battler that had players collecting heroes from both sides of the classic struggle between plant life and the undead.

If the rumors about Plants vs. Zombies Replanted are true, they could also throw the future of Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia into question. The third mainline installment was soft-launched in 2020 and brought back in 2024, but the Plants vs. Zombies game was shut down for retooling and has yet to see the light of day again. It's possible that this new rumored game is the result of that retooling, but fans will have to wait and see before they can make their own comparisons.
