A New Version of Resident Evil 2 Has Been Announced, But…

An unexpected new version of Resident Evil 2 is here, but the arcade game, titled Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot, is currently only available to play on a single test cabinet in the UK. 1998's Resident Evil 2 remains one of the most popular entries in the long-running franchise, with its 2019 remake finding incredible success with both original fans and newcomers alike. This new game is already seeing intense interest from fans, but only a select few may be able to try it for themselves.

In 2024, it was confirmed that the Resident Evil 2 remake had become the best-selling game in the survival horror franchise, with nearly 14 million units sold at the time, beating both Village and Resident Evil 7. The title saw critical acclaim following its launch, applauded for its gameplay and faithfulness to the original 1998 release and later winning Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards in 2019. Fans eager for more Resident Evil 2 content are in luck, as a new version of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield's adventure is now available to play. However, players will need to be in one very specific locale to experience it for themselves.

A new video from IGN shows off the fast-paced gameplay fans can expect in Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot, which is currently only available to play via a single arcade test cabinet found at Namco Funscape in Romford, located in the southeast of England. The game looks to be adapted from the 2019 remake, and while it is still in active development, the game currently allows players to progress through two episodes, while the next three are locked. Utilizing a light gun, players can take on hoards of zombies inside the Raccoon City Police Department. While the Resident Evil 2 remake is available on many platforms, this is the first instance of it being brought to an arcade cabinet, and it's unclear when it will make its way to more locations or be removed from the Romford location.

Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot Is Only Available on One Arcade Test Cabinet in the UK

Familiar faces from past games in the survival horror franchise are scheduled to return later this year, as the mobile game Resident Evil Survival Unit is slated to launch sometime in 2025. Players will be able to create teams of three characters to balance their strengths and weaknesses, with previously announced names including Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, and Alyssa Ashcroft.

In June, players got their first look at Resident Evil Requiem, the next mainline entry in the franchise. Scheduled to be released in February 2026, the game will follow Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak's Alyssa Ashcroft, as she explores an abandoned Raccoon City and faces off against terrifying beings in the single-player adventure.
