Summary

  • Capcom plans to make more remakes of Resident Evil games, following the success of its previous remakes.
  • The next game to receive a remake has not been announced, but possibilities include Resident Evil Code: Veronica or Resident Evil 5.
  • Fans may have to wait until at least 2025 for the next Resident Evil remake, as there are reportedly no plans for a release in 2024.

Capcom has plans to make more Resident Evil remakes. Remaks have been part of the Resident Evil franchise's DNA since the early days, though Capcom has recently become more aggressive about them. Capcom has produced three Resident Evil remakes since 2019, bringing Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Resident Evil 4 to modern standards with vastly improved graphics, gameplay upgrades, and more.

After the runaway success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, it's really no surprise Capcom has continued to remake games in its beloved survival-horror series. Each Resident Evil remake game has been a huge commercial success, and so it may seem obvious that even more remakes could be in the pipeline. Capcom recently confirmed as much, revealing that it does indeed plan on remaking more Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil 4 Getting Major New Game Mode on December 8

Fans should be excited for December 8th, as Resident Evil 4 is getting a major new game mode exclusively for PlayStation 5 users.

As reported by IGN, Capcom recently appeared at a PlayStation event in Japan, where Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo said that Capcom plans to do more Resident Evil remakes. Anpo didn't reveal which Resident Evil game will get the remake treatment next, but some distinct possibilities come to mind.

Obviously, the game that many fans would like to see remade next is Resident Evil Code: Veronica. In fact, many fans were upset when Capcom announced plans to remake Resident Evil 4 instead of Code: Veronica, so there is clearly an appetite for the game to get a modern makeover. Code: Veronica not being a numbered entry in the series could be part of the reason why Capcom decided to skip over it for Resident Evil 4, but considering the extremely important story developments that happen in the game, it would be a mistake to leave it in the past. Unfortunately, the latest word suggests a Code: Veronica remake is not currently in the works, so fans shouldn't hold their breath.

Others believe that Resident Evil 5 could be next in line for a remake, or even the original Resident Evil. Capcom has multiple Resident Evil games to choose from when it comes to the franchise's next remake, and it will definitely be interesting to see what it ultimately lands on.

Anyone holding out hope for a Resident Evil remake to release next year shouldn't hold their breath, though. A reliable insider has said that there will be no new Resident Evil remakes in 2024, meaning the earliest one could release is 2025. Capcom also reportedly has Resident Evil 9 in active development, so who knows when the franchise's next remake will hit the market.
