  • Fans wary after lukewarm reception to some Silent Hill games, but Konami reaffirms commitment to franchise's future in financial report.
  • Possibility of internally developed Silent Hill game sparks interest.

A credible insider has claimed that Konami might have another unannounced Silent Hill project in the works. The longstanding Japanese publisher is keen to revive the Silent Hill series for modern audiences by way of multiple new entries confirmed to launch in the coming years, but it appears that Konami may have more games up its sleeve than it initially let on.

The infamous cancelation of Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills project in 2015 put the Silent Hill franchise on a seven-year hiatus, disappointing many fans of the iconic survival horror series. However, their spirits were lifted in 2022 when Konami announced a bevy of new Silent Hill games ranging extensively in scope and targeting various platforms. The headliners were the PlayStation 5 console exclusive Silent Hill 2 remake, and the enigmatic Silent Hill f. Meanwhile, Silent Hill: Ascension and Silent Hill: Townfall were pitched as more novel experiences, as was Silent Hill: The Short Message, a PS5 demo that launched earlier this year.

The lukewarm critical reception to Ascension and The Short Message has some fans worried about the remaining slate of Silent Hill games, but it seems Konami might have held back from showing its full hand when it comes to in-development projects. In a recent tweet, notable industry insider AestheticGamer highlighted a quote from Konami's Q1 2024 financial report reaffirming the company's commitment to "Silent Hill's future." The insider then posted a follow-up tweet wherein they alleged that Konami currently has an internally developed Silent Hill game that the company hasn't revealed yet, as well as a "couple other" unannounced projects.

Rumored Silent Hill Project May Differ from the Currently Announced Games in One Big Way

While another Silent Hill game may not sound too surprising as Konami is quite bullish on the series, the prospect of it being internally developed draws intrigue. All the announced upcoming Silent Hill projects are collaborative efforts between smaller game developers and Konami, such as Bloober Team spearheading the Silent Hill 2 remake. Therefore, taking one Silent Hill project (possibly even more) under its supervision might hint at Konami wanting to be more hands-on with game development. The report is unconfirmed, of course, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

It's also worth noting that Konami dissolved Team Silent, the original in-house team that worked on the legacy Silent Hill titles, in the early 2000s. However, the company might just be opening up to internal game production again, especially since the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake development team consisted of devs from both Konami and Virtuos.
