Summary
- Konami has announced a new Silent Hill game.
- The game is being developed by Silent Hill 2 remake developer Bloober Team.
- The new game is a remake of the original Silent Hill.
A brand-new Silent Hill game was just announced by Konami, and it seems to be a remake of the original developed by Bloober Team. Konami recently hosted its Press Start event, which gave fans a look at currently-available games as well as titles that are coming in the near future. Konami opened the show with the reveal of a new online multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and then ended it with Silent Hill.
The Konami presentation sandwiched a lot of admittedly lackluster free-to-play game highlights between its two biggest releases on the horizon. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater looked as impressive as ever, and fans got another look at Silent Hill f's gameplay and story. Right after the Silent Hill f portion of the presentation ended, Konami announced that a new Silent Hill game from Bloober Team.
Silent Hill f is a Bold Strategy that Needs to Pay Off After SH2 Remake
Konami's decision to follow up the critically-acclaimed Silent Hill 2 Remake with Silent Hill f is a bold release strategy that has to pay off.
Bloober Team, the developer behind the critically-acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake, is working on a remake of the original Silent Hill. No additional details were announced during the Press Start event, but fans did get to see the logo that the new game will use. It's long been hinted that Bloober Team's relationship with Konami would continue beyond the Silent Hill 2 remake, and now fans have confirmation that is indeed the case.
Silent Hill 1 Remake Announced
While some may have expected the Silent Hill 2 remake to be followed up by a Silent Hill 3 remake, it actually makes much more sense to go back to SH1 first. Silent Hill 3 serves as a direct sequel to Silent Hill 1, and so one has to imagine that a Silent Hill 3 remake is planned after this newly-announced game has been released. Then it's just a question if any of the other Silent Hill games will get similar treatment. Silent Hill 4 certainly has its fans, though Homecoming and Downpour aren't nearly as popular as the other games in the survival-horror franchise.
As far as Silent Hill 1 goes, this isn't the first time that the classic game has been remade. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was released in 2009 for the Wii and served as a reimagining of the OG game. It will be interesting to see if Bloober Team's take on the original Silent Hill borrows any elements from Shattered Memories, or if the studio sticks closer to the PS1 game. Bloober Team is currently busy with Cronos: The New Dawn and Konami has Silent Hill f releasing this September, so it may be some time before more information on the Silent Hill 1 remake is unveiled.
