Summary
- Disney may be partnering with Xbox for new Star Wars game.
- This comes after the incredible success of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
- It's unclear which Xbox studio will be developing the title.
Disney may be partnering with Xbox once more to make a new Star Wars game, according to a new rumor. This wouldn't be the first time Xbox and Disney have partnered up, as they recently came together to create Indiana Jones and the Great Circle developed by Bethesda's Wolfenstein studio, MachineGames. The game was released back in December to massive critical acclaim and became one of the first major Xbox first-party titles to jump over to PlayStation 5 this past April. That's not all, however, as another Bethesda team, Arkane Lyon, still has its Marvel's Blade game in development.
Ever since EA's Star Wars exclusivity ended two years ago, there has been a new wave of exciting new titles based on the iconic sci-fi franchise. Perhaps the biggest of them all is Ubisoft's 2024 entry, Star Wars Outlaws, hailed as the first ever open-world Star Wars game. There have also been a number of lower-profile remasters of classic Star Wars games, like Nightdive Studios' Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster and Aspyr's Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles. There are even more games currently in the works, too, such as EA's third Star Wars Jedi entry, Quantic Dream's mysterious Star Wars Eclipse, Aspyr's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, and the most recently announced Star Wars Zero Company, an XCOM-like tactics game from Bit Reactor.
Star Wars Battlefront Hopefully Hasn't Faced the Reaper
The Star Wars Battlefront series has been a fantastic ride so far, and hopefully, there are going to be plenty more entries in the future.
Now, a new rumor suggests that another new Star Wars game could be in the works, this time under the Xbox banner. According to Xbox influencer Riskit4TB on Twitter, Disney is reportedly interested in working with Xbox once more after the critical and commercial success of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Riskit goes on to mention that his contact believes it's a new Star Wars game that Disney is apparently interested in making with Xbox.
Disney Might Be Working on New Star Wars Game with Xbox
This new rumor poses the interesting question of which studio under the Xbox umbrella would be in the best position to make a Star Wars game. After Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, MachineGames is expected by many to return to its Wolfenstein series for a third mainline installment, as it's now been eight years since 2017's Wolfenstein 2. There have been short-lived rumors of a Coalition Mandalorian game in the past, though with Gears of War: E-Day next up for the studio, this no longer seems likely. Ninja Theory, id Software, Zenimax Online and the freshly created Elsewhere Entertainment have yet to announce their next big games, making them prime suspects for a Star Wars production.
Although the Xbox Games Showcase is set to go live this Sunday, June 8, fans shouldn't expect any Disney or Star Wars news to come of it, as if this rumor is true, the game is potentially several years away. Though that's not to rule out a new look at Marvel's Blade, as Sunday seems like a prime opportunity for Arkane Lyon to take a piece of the Xbox spotlight.
