Summary

  • Microsoft is rumored to have multiple new Transformers projects in the works.
  • Transformers gaming action has recently been limited to smaller mobile titles and spin-offs.
  • Future projects could include re-releases of beloved Transformers video games.

According to a new rumor, Microsoft could have multiple Transformers projects in the works. Be they tie-ins to existing Transformers movies and shows or original adaptations like Transformers: War for Cybertron and its sequels, Hasbro’s juggernaut toy franchise has spawned several video games of varying quality and acclaim over its 40-year lifespan - with some of the most notable ones being published by Microsoft subsidiary Activision.

More recently, Transformers has seemingly been relegated to smaller mobile titles and spin-offs like the upcoming Transformers: Galactic Trials, as well as crossover appearances in the likes of Overwatch 2 and Fortnite. Almost two years ago, developer Splash Damage announced Transformers: Reactivate, a 1-4 player online action game that sees humans discover and reawaken some of the franchise’s most beloved Autobots and Decepticons to battle an alien threat to both Earth and Cybertron alike. However, very little has been revealed since Transformers: Reactivate was first revealed at The Game Awards 2022.

Overwatch 2's latest collaboration with Transformers has a series of Autobot and Decepticon skins for their favorite heroes.

In the meantime, a new rumor hints that there might be more Transformers gaming action on the horizon in 2024. A recent post on the Transformers-centric fansite TFW2005 claims that Microsoft Studios is working on at least two unannounced titles simply code-named “Transformers.” Nothing else is stated beyond that, save that Microsoft is reportedly aiming to release both these projects at some point later this year.

New Transformers Games Could Be In Development

It is also worth pointing out that Microsoft now owns Activision, the publisher behind such titles as Transformers: War for Cybertron and its 2012 sequel Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Both these fan-favorite titles were delisted from digital storefronts a few years ago, but Hasbro recently expressed a desire to bring them back on Xbox Game Pass in the wake of the franchise’s renewed popularity and upcoming cinematic projects like the upcoming Transformers One animated film.

One of these rumored Transformers projects could very well be a re-release of the Transformers: War for Cybertron series, especially since Hasbro has debunked past claims that the code for the games was lost. However, it should be stressed that nothing has been officially confirmed as of this writing, meaning that these new Transformers projects might not even be real. With that in mind, Transformers fans should keep their sensors posted for any future developments on when or if the classic Robots in Disguise will resume their epic battle in a new video game.
