Amazon Games has announced the open beta dates for New World: Aeternum, allowing players on PC, PS5, and Xbox to experience the game ahead of its release later this year. First announced during Summer Game Fest in June, New World: Aeternum is the updated version of the popular MMORPG originally known as New World, which was exclusive to PC.
Amazon's first-ever AAA video game, New World, was officially launched on September 28, 2021. Set in a fantastical version of the 17th century, the game blends survival and MMO elements, allowing players to explore the supernatural island of Aeternum. The game initially saw a peak of over 900,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the most-played games at the time. However, this success proved to be short-lived, as the game experienced a sharp decline in player interest over the following months.
