Summary

  • New World: Aeternum MMORPG will undergo a third wave of server merges.
  • Players on Draco will merge into Aries and Rosa will merge into Hudsonland, beginning on April 29.
  • The Amazon dev team noted, “We’ll continue to monitor population trends and adapt as needed.”

Amazon’s MMORPG New World is receiving a third wave of server merges since the 2024 release of Aeternum. The free-to-play title underwent two rounds of server merges before, in November 2024 and February 2025, and after the third round, New World is expected to host 28 remaining servers.

Existing alongside the heavyweight MMOs, like Final Fantasy 14, World of Warcraft, and The Elder Scrolls Online, Amazon’s entry is somewhat overshadowed by these behemoths when it comes to fame. However, New Word: Aeternum still received its own Secret Level episode (likely due to Amazon’s hold over both projects) featuring the voices of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Pacey, Gabriel Luna, and more.

Posted on New World’s Discord server and social media, the team confirmed the third merge would be smaller, combining Draco into Aries for EU players and Rosa into Hudsonland on the US Eastside. While it’s not currently confirmed if users will be able to use free transfer tokens, players populating Draco and Rosa will see merges begin on April 29, and they’ll have the option to port elsewhere themselves or wait to be transferred to a default server. Before Aeternum, Amazon hosted New World server merges back in 2021, in response to the strewn player base since launch, combined with free server transfers leaving lowly populated servers abandoned.

Amazon Confirms New World's Third Round of Server Merges

Following the launch of Brimstone Sands, a new zone released back in 2022, the MMO’s player count rose, which gave Amazon the idea to introduce Fresh Start servers to each region in New World. Now, after delivering the news of more server merges, the Amazon dev team wrote, “We’ll continue to monitor population trends and adapt as needed,” implying more server merges may be on the horizon. In response to the recent server rework, players thought it would be a better idea for Amazon to condense the player base down into one server based on region, and others expressed concern for the game’s survival after the upcoming sandbox MMO Ashes of Creation releases.

New World: Aeternum started 2025 off with a bang, much to the delight of faithful fans, by introducing season 7 content. Amazon’s Living Roadmap for the game outlined the addition of new daily solo trails, combat balance updates, new artifacts and perks, seasonal events and world bosses, and mutated expedition upgrades that arrived with season 7’s launch. The roadmap also confirmed that new seasonal worlds and endgame progression improvements were in development, with new weapons, ranked PvP, and new PvE modes being explored by the team.
