New World's Nightveil Hallow celebration for Halloween is ongoing. It's been a tradition on MMOs to celebrate holidays going back decades. Halloween is one of those major holidays due to its heavy themes that translate well to video games. Spooky stories filled with monsters, costumes and socializing, and sweet treats all work well in MMOs, and New World isn't willing to miss the opportunity (for the second time in a row). The Nightveil Hollow beckons.

There is a bit of history to acknowledge in New World's not-so-distant past. The MMO officially launched in late September 2021, just over a year ago. When October 2021 arrived, New World did not have a Halloween event readied. In retrospect, that's completely understandable. The game had just launched and the developers at Amazon were dealing with all manner of server issues and other problems. That doesn't make the decision any less of a disappointment, though, and it makes this year's Halloween that much more significant.

Amazon didn't let New World players down, though. Halloween is just a few days away, and New World players are already celebrating it with the ongoing Nightveil Hallow event. During Nightveil Hallow, which will last until November 1, players can pick up a new questline, earn a variety of Halloween-themed rewards, or pick up some premium Halloween cosmetics in New World's shop.

The biggest addition of Nightveil Hallow is the Marquis of Terror, the demon Baalphazu. Baalphazu has spread a curse throughout the lands of New World that has led to the rise of the evil Pumpkinites monsters. Players will have to defeat Baalphazu and destroy his remains in the Nightveil Cauldron to rid the world of his curse and earn some treats in the process. The quest does require New World players to be level 35 to start, though, so they are hopefully prepared.

By questing and adventuring during Neightveil Hallow, New World players will earn a currency named Nightveil Tokens. These tokens can be exchanged at the event-specific Nightveil Hallow Shop for cosmetics, including outfits and house decorations. For those looking for a pumpkin helmet or a witch hat, Amazon has provided those.

This is the Halloween event that New World players have been waiting for. It may not have made sense for New World at launch, as players were struggling to log in and level, but it's here now and appears to be exactly what would be expected of a holiday MMO event.

New World is available now on PC.
