Summary

  • Niantic confirms an issue with special backgrounds in remote raids during Pokemon GO Fest 2024 and promises compensation soon.
  • Special backgrounds are a new feature in Pokemon GO.
  • Players hope for a rerun of the Necrozma raid as compensation, but some fear Niantic may just give out free raid passes instead.

Niantic has finally acknowledged the complaints players had with respect to special backgrounds not showing up for remote raids in Pokemon GO Fest 2024 and has assured that compensation is on the way for those who suffered from the issue. As of now, Niantic has not revealed what Pokemon GO players will get in return as it is still actively investigating the issue and will follow up with more details in the days to come.

The past few weeks have been a bumpy ride for Niantic, as the developer has received a lot of flak from the community. Most recent of all is the updated Terms of Service, which prevents Pokemon GO players from being a part of a class action lawsuit against Niantic. Amid that, there is some good news for fans who took part in remote raids during Pokemon GO Fest.

In a new tweet, Niantic has finally addressed one of the major issues players faced during Pokemon GO Fest 2024: Global. Apparently, players were not receiving special backgrounds for Pokemon caught using remote raid passes in Pokemon GO. It should be noted that the issue was confined to the first day of Pokemon GO Fest 2024: Global, and the second day seems to have worked as expected. Niantic has noted that it is currently investigating the issue, and it will soon follow up with a "make good." It is not yet known what this compensation will be, but fans already have a wishlist ready.

Niantic Addresses GO Fest 2024 Issues

While this affected all remote raids, fans are hoping that they will get a rerun of the Pokemon GO Necrozma raid, as the issue prevented them from getting a memorable Pokemon for themselves. However, some other players have stressed the fact that it could also end up being something much less rewarding. There is a possibility that Niantic might end up just handing out remote raid passes for free as compensation, and a lot of fans are not at all looking forward to that.

Special backgrounds are a new mechanic that debuted during GO Fest 2024 and the Inbound from Ultra Space Event in Pokemon GO. Players had a random chance to get these special backgrounds, which meant that it added a new trait to make the Pokemon special. Considering that it was not certain that players would get a special background while catching a Pokemon, many were unsure if they were just unlucky or if the feature was bugged. However, the discrepancy between the special backgrounds received by remote and local players did raise some eyebrows. With Niantic confirming the issue, many who missed the opportunity might get another shot to get a rare Pokemon.
