Nier: Automata has 26 different endings. Some require a lot of work, getting to the end of the game and making a specific choice, while others are easy and require failing certain missions. Gamers should keep in mind that beating Nier: Automata for the first time is not the end of the story. It only results in one ending. After, players can begin a second playthrough with all their gear and levels intact to uncover what happens next.

The Drakengard and NieR series are known for their excellent narrative complexity and philosophical themes.

Obtaining all the endings without a guide is nearly impossible, as they can get quite specific. Those hoping to see all 26 should store several saved files to make obtaining these ending scenarios less challenging. Certain endings, such as Z and F, are known as "bad ends" and thus take the player to the title screen without saving their game.

Updated July 22, 2024, by Michael Llewellyn: In addition to a thought-provoking narrative, the Nier series provides replay value with multiple endings and hidden secrets to uncover. There are multiple endings to unlock, each requiring specific conditions to be met during certain chapters. This guide has been updated to include the final secret discovered by a modder that's hardcoded into the game and allows you to unlock all of Nier: Automata's chapters early.

How To Get All Main Endings In Nier: Automata

Nier Automata Unmasked 9S and 2B

Endings A through E are known as the main endings of the game and require completing the main story at least three times.

It's important to note that ending E is the final ending players should aim to unlock, as it gives gamers the option to delete every game save if they choose to become one of the helpers. Those planning to complete everything Nier: Automata has to offer should save this ending for last if they plan to delete all of their saves.

Ending

How To Complete

Ending A: flower for m[A]chines

Beat the main story for the first time.

Ending B: or not to [B]e

Continue the game after obtaining ending A and beat the main story as 9S.

Ending C: meaningless [C]ode

Continue playing the game after obtaining ending B and then pick A2 at the final boss battle.

Ending D: child[D]hood's end

Continue playing the game after obtaining ending B (or C) and choose 9S at the final boss battle.

Ending E: the [E]nd of Yorha

After ending C or D, Pod 153 can do a data check. Accept the offer and select "wish for them to survive." This triggers a mini-game event (be sure to be connected to PSN, or the mini-game will be very difficult). The player can then choose to be a helper, but they will have to delete their save files to do so. Not choosing to be a helper will allow players to keep their saves intact.
