Summary
- Nightingale's developer Inflexion Games has laid off employees.
- Nightingale faced server issues and had mixed reviews.
- The game recently released the Realms Rebuilt update.
Nightingale developer Inflexion Games has recently confirmed the layoffs of an undisclosed number of employees following the game’s failure to reach a wide audience during early access. Nightingale seemed promising when it was released, but it failed to grow its player base, which created financial problems for its developer, Inflexion Games.
Released in early access back in February, Nightingale faced several server problems at launch, which greatly affected the overall opinion about the game. While Inflexion Games heard the community and quickly came up with solutions, such as allowing an offline mode in Nightingale, opinions on the open-world survival game remained mixed, and the title stands with only 65% positive reviews on Steam.
Now, Inflexion Games CEO Aaryn Flynn has confirmed that the studio recently laid off an undisclosed number of employees, restructuring its team in Canada and completely shutting down the office in the United Kingdom. According to Flynn, the past few weeks have been “incredibly challenging,” and the layoffs are necessary to keep the studio afloat amid disappointing early access. While Inflexion Games did not reveal how many employees were laid off, posts from ex-devs such as Guillaume Leroy indicated that most of the employees in the company are no longer working there. In any case, Flynn confirmed that the studio will continue working on the survival game and that more updates are coming soon.
Inflexion Games Lays Off an Undisclosed Number of Employees
It’s sad to see Inflexion Studios suffering from layoffs, especially after Nightingale's Realms Rebuilt update, which was released last month. The update made significant changes to the open-world survival game, including adding a whole new campaign, six new bosses, more weapons, encounters, Charms, and more. The game also received many adjustments to its combat, general gameplay, and UI, fixing several problems. After the layoffs, however, the future of Nightingale seems unclear, and the next updates might not be as large and frequent as the previous ones.
Unfortunately, the layoffs at Inflexion Games mark a difficult year for the gaming industry. Companies such as the Embracer Group, Unity Technologies, and Microsoft laid off thousands of employees each, as well as other major companies like EA, Sony, Epic Games, Riot Games, Ubisoft, and more. The crisis has been affecting small studios, too, with Tales of Kenzera: Zau’ s Surgent Studios putting its team on notice for redundancy earlier this month, for example. Unfortunately, it does not seem that the trend is about to stop, which may spell bad news for other small studios that did not have huge hits this year.
