In Nightingale, players' first experience with the game's ranged combat system will involve the use of the Simple Slingbow, a slingshot which uses ammo crafted from ordinary rocks at a Simple Workbench. Progressing to firearms introduces an expected significant leap in combat effectiveness, offering the substantial damage boost needed to take down more formidable foes. This guide focuses on navigating the complexities of obtaining guns and ammunition in Nightingale.

Obtain Realm Card to Unlock Provisioner Realms

Provisioner Site of Power in Nightingale

Schematics to craft guns in Nightingale are available from traders found exclusively within Provisioner Realms. Through progress in Nightingale’s main story, players will eventually receive a quest requiring them to start obtaining specific Major Cards. To obtain these cards, the player must clear special dungeons located throughout their Abeyance called Sites of Power. These sites are marked on the player's map, making them relatively easy to locate.

In the player’s Abeyance, there are four Site of Power dungeons they will have to overcome as part of Nightingale’s main quest series. These dungeons must be completed in order of difficulty, and each dungeon has a minimum gear score requirement. The order and gear score requirement for each Site of Power is as follows:

  • Antiquarium – Requires 20 gear score or higher
  • Astrolabe – Requires 30 gear score or higher
  • Provisioner – Requires 40 gear score or higher
  • Herbarium – Requires 50 gear score or higher

Upon completing the Provisioner Site of Power and defeating its final boss, the Fabled Automaton Knight, the player will receive the Provisioner Card. Upon obtaining this card, an NPC will introduce the player to the concept of Provisioner Realms, which are Realms that players can access by combining the Provisioner Card with other Realm cards. Unlocking and visiting these realms are crucial to obtaining the schematics necessary to craft guns and ammo in Nightingale.

Craft a Refined Workbench

Completing Bass Reeves quest and unlocking Refined Workbench in Nightingale

Before players can start crafting guns and ammo in Nightingale, they will need to construct and augment Refined crafting stations in order to make the required components. The schematics for these augmentations and crafting stations can be purchased from Provisioner Essence Traders for 15 T1 Essence each.

To obtain the schematic for the Refined Workbench, players must first complete the Target Practice quest offered Bass Reeves, an NPC found in the Forest Provisioner Realm. The player will need to bring along their Simple Slingbow and ample ammunition to take on this challenge and will receive the Lancaster Pistol and discover how to craft the Refined Workbench upon its successful completion.

Once the player has placed the Refined Workbench, they will be able to add the necessary augments to craft each of Nightingale's early game guns once they have obtained the schematics. Schematics to craft entry-level guns in Nightingale can be purchased for 15 T1 Essence each from Essence Traders located in these specific Provisioner Realms:

Chassepot Rifle

The Chassepot Rifle schematic is purchased from Swamp Provisioner Essence Trader in Swamp Provisioner Realm. Crafting this weapon requires the Crude Ammo Box augment, sold by the Desert Provisioner Essence Trader.

Lancaster Pistol

The Lancaster Pistol schematic is purchased from Forest Provisioner Essence Trader in Forest Provisioner Realm. Crafting this weapon requires the Simple Saddle Rack augmentation, also sold by the Forest Provisioner Essence Trader.

Smoothbore Shotgun

The Smoothbore Shotgun schematic is purchased from Desert Provisioner Essence Trader in Desert Provisioner Realm. Crafting this weapon requires the Crude Tea Set augmentation, also sold by the Desert Provisioner Essence Trader.

Once the player has obtained a schematic to craft a gun in Nightingale, they will need to utilize a Refined Workbench with the necessary augmentation to craft these weapons.

How to Get Ammo in Nightingale

Crafting ammunition in Nightingale

In Nightingale, every firearm operates with its specific type of ammunition. Unlike the Slingbow, which fires simple rocks, each early-game gun in Nightingale requires one of three distinct types of special ammunition.

  • .433 Rifle Cartridge - Required by Chassepot Rifle
  • .451 Revolver Cartridge - Required by Lancaster Pistol
  • 12 Gauge Buckshot Cartridge - Required by Smoothbore Shotgun

Each type of ammunition in Nightingale can be crafted using 2 Ingot and 2 Gunpowder. In order to craft ammunition, players will first need to craft Gunpowder using 2 Sulfur and 2 Coal at a Refined Masonry Bench. Ingots can be crafted using 2 Ore at a Simple Smelter or better. Finally, crafting each type of ammunition requires its necessary augmentation to the Refined Workbench. It is important to make sure not to exceed the augmentation limit of the workbench, or the recipes will not show up.
