As expected, gathering and refining materials from the game's diverse biomes is a key part of the Nightingale experience. Before players can explore even more new realms in Nightingale, they'll first need to delve into this crafting system to craft Refined Pigment and Alchemical Ink.
How to Make Refined Pigment in Nightingale
Before players can craft Alchemical Ink in Nightingale, it is imperative to first secure a supply of Refined Pigment. This initial step requires the construction of a Simple Mortar Station. Players can obtain the schematic necessary for crafting this station very early in their Nightingale adventure. The schematic for the Simple Mortar Station can be purchased from the Essence Trader located within their Abeyance for 55 Essence Dust.
Craft, Place, and Use the Simple Mortar Station
To create the Simple Mortar Station, the necessary materials include 3 Lumber and 8 Fibre. Lumber is processed from Wood Bundles at a Saw Table. Meanwhile, Fibre is harvested from various plants that players can encounter while exploring the wilderness. After the crafting of the Simple Mortar Station, it must be placed within the player's realm. This station is not only instrumental in the creation of Refined Pigment but also serves as the production point for Alchemical Ink.
Gather Pigment Ingredients and Craft Refined Pigment
The process of producing Refined Pigment involves the utilization of a pigment. This term broadly encompasses a diverse range of materials that are specified in the recipe found at the Simple Mortar Station. The game allows for the use of various items to create pigment, including but not limited to bugs, berries, flowers, and animal meat. To identify suitable materials for Refined Pigment production, players should refer to the detailed recipe provided at their Simple Mortar Station.
How to Make Alchemical Ink in Nightingale
The creation of Alchemical Ink requires the player to combine 1 Refined Pigment with 1 Glass at the Simple Mortar Station or better. The process to obtain the Refined Pigment has been outlined above; here's what players will need to do to craft the Simple Smelter and obtain Glass.
Craft, Place, and Use the Simple Smelter
The Simple Smelter is another crafting station players can construct by purchasing the schematic from the Essence Trader in their Abeyance. Crafting the Simple Smelter requires 4 Stone Blocks and 6 Rocks, the former of which can be obtained from large stones using any Mining Pick and the latter collected from the ground.

Gather Gems and Craft Glass
To produce Glass, players must use the Simple Smelter to transform any two Gems into Glass. Gems are acquired through mining activities, requiring at least a Simple Mining Pick for extraction. It's important to note that the Makeshift Mining Pick provided during the initial tutorial of Nightingale is insufficient for gem collection.
Once the player has obtained both Refined Pigment and Glass, they can combine these ingredients at the Simple Mortar Station to create Alchemical Ink. Using Alchemical Ink along with Paper and Essence Dust at the Simple Enchanter’s Focus allows players to craft Realm Cards. These Realm Cards are crucial as they unlock new Fae Realms for exploration, expanding the player's adventure horizon within Nightingale.
