There are countless possible realm combinations in Nightingale, and given how players can alter what worlds they get, choosing the right ones to visit can be quite the conundrum. Realm cards have major effects on the game's randomly-generated worlds, and if you pick the wrong one, you'll be in for a bad time.

Abeyance Realms are a type of world that's much more geared towards relatively peaceful exploration and base building. They aren't as difficult as a world created by Nightingale's Antiquarian cards, but they do come with benefits of their own. Everyone gets to pick what Abeyance they start on, and if you're wondering which one to pick, here's a quick guide to help you out.

Best Abeyance Realms in Nightingale

As a fresh-faced Realmwalker, Puck will let you pick which from one of three Abeyance Realms after you finish the tutorial. Your choice here will decide your starting experience; the difficulty between these options vary, and so too do the enemies and resources found within them.

  • Forest — The easiest Abeyance Realm. Wood and Stone are plentiful, and you'll usually find regular Earth fauna like wolves, deer, and boars roaming the wilderness.
  • Desert — Most difficult realm in terms of survival. Wood and Plant Fibers are less abundant outside of oases, and the scorching desert sun will sap you of your strength.
  • Swamp — Medium difficulty. Resources are plenty, but its more fantastical fauna tend to be aggressive. Poisonous mires can also pose a problem.

An Abeyance Realm is a world of minimal danger. It is not necessarily restricted to a type of biome. Players can explore harder versions of each biome by using Antiquarian, Astrolabe, Hunt, or other similar Realm Cards on a portal machine.

How to repair buildings in Nightingale
Nightingale How to repair buildings

If you're completely new to the survival crafting genre, we highly recommend starting in a Forest first. This offers the most relaxed experience where you can learn Nightingale's basics like repairing, crafting, and exploring. These are also excellent realms for building bases thanks to roaming Carnutes, giant, ghostly deer creatures that can magically regrow trees.

Meanwhile, veteran survivalists should start at the Swamp realm. Everything here is a little bit more hostile, but you'll find more valuable mining resources compared to the ones you see in Forest realms.

Starting in a Desert realm is not recommended. The oppressive heat makes early game exploration needlessly difficult, and scarce Wood means you'll have to rely on Stone to build bases. There's also a high chance that you'll die a lot to starvation depending on how lucky you are with flora and fauna spawns in the world you get.
