After completing the tutorial sections and first chapter, Ninja Gaiden 4's second chapter, Haunted District, will pick up precisely where the former left off. At this point, you'll have destroyed two of the four Pylons in Sky City Tokyo, and you'll immediately set out to destroy the third. In this guide, we'll provide an in-depth guide to completing every task and finding every chest and collectible in Ninja Gaiden 4's second chapter, Haunted District.
The Best Ninja Gaiden Games, Ranked
From 1989's Ninja Gaiden to 2025's Ninja Gaiden 4, here are the best games in Team Ninja's legendary franchise.
Chapter 2 Complete Walkthrough Part 1 – Ninja Gaiden 4
Run the Rails and DarkNest Terminal 1:
As previously mentioned, Haunted District picks up exactly where Chapter 1 ends. You'll start at the edge of a long bridge, which looks to be perfectly clear. All fans of the series will know this is likely too good to be true, and our fears are proven correct when the bridge collapses as Yakumo is crossing.
While falling, you will be prompted to use the Caddis Wire to grapple onto a long rail. This leads to a rail-jumping sequence, complete with obstacles and oncoming trains. As long as you pay attention to the RB/R1 prompts, it's fairly easy to avoid certain doom.
At the end of the rail section, you'll encounter a small group of enemies, followed by the chapter's first DarkNest Terminal, and Tyran's first raven.
New Missions:
When you interact with the first DarkNest Terminal in Chapter 2, the following new missions will be available:
- Execute the DDO Bodyguards – Reward: NinjaCoin x3500
- Execute the Otherworldy Invaders – Reward: NinjaCoin x4500
Both missions are based in Sky City Tokyo. At this point, if you accepted the mission to defeat 50 enemies back in Chapter 1, you'll likely be able to turn that in and collect the Bulwark God's Orb, which is an Accessory that halves all ranged damage done to Yakumo.
Tyran's raven is perched upon a fence near the AC vents, and a bit hard to see if you don't already know where it is. If you wish to speak to Tyran, check the above image for his exact location.
First Black Scale, Increase Max Health:
When you leave the first DarkNest Terminal, you'll begin a series of combat encounters that introduce the ability to grapple to the combat drones. This encounter takes place in a large, highly vertical area, with a mix of rooftop and ground-level fighting. You'll encounter three chests in this area.
Chest 1 is at ground level, near the start of the encounter. Look for a wall of electronic control panels, and you'll find the chest. This chest contains Rejuvenation Elixir x1, which refills health over time.
Chest 2 is technically at ground level, but you'll need to make your way up to the area at the base of the yellow ladder that leads to the rooftops. You'll find Chest 2 slightly hidden behind large blue containers. This chest also contains Rejuvenation Elixir x1.
After collecting the first two chests, make your way up the yellow ladder to the rooftops. You'll see a wall-run that leads to a long set of gaps and stairs that you can pass by grappling to the drones. At the top, you'll encounter one of the elite DDO soldiers. While you're fighting them, you'll likely see Chest 3 at the end of an alley.
Chest 3 contains the first Black Scale. This item will mix with a Phantasmal Herb to create the Dragon Lord's Grace. If you have one of each item, the game will automatically combine them and consume the Dragon Lord's Grace to increase Yakumo's max health.
If you collected the Data Chip mission in Chapter 1, you will already have a Phantasmal Herb.
Chapter 2 Purgatory Gate – Ninja Gaiden 4
Before you jump to the rail that leads off the rooftop immediately after the Black Scale, the Purgatory Gate is nearby if you wish to complete that challenge before moving on.
Instead of jumping on the rail, turn around and head back to the top of the ledges that lead up to the current level. Right at the point where the first drone is hovering, make a right turn. You should see several blue containers, and a lower rooftop that you can jump to.
Jump down to the lower level, and look across the gap into the next building. You'll see an older rail that you can jump onto. Ride this rail until it drops you off in a new room. Take the stairs up, then follow the path, and it will lead you to the Purgatory Gate.
Remember, you can only choose one challenge per Purgatory Gate, so make sure you choose wisely. The more health you sacrifice at the start of the challenge, the more rewards you'll receive.
Execute the DDO Bodyguards – Ninja Gaiden 4
Riding the Rails to DarkNest Terminal 2:
After completing the Purgatory Gate, you'll end up back in the same courtyard where Chest 1 & 2 are located. Make your way back up to the rail on the rooftop, directly after Chest 3. Use RB/R1 to jump to the rails and begin the journey to the next combat arena.
After you pass through the long encounter, which takes place mostly on one long platform, a large red and black gate will open. Make your way up through that gate, and you'll end up at the second DarkNest Terminal and Tyran's Raven.
How to Reach the DDO Bodyguards:
From the second terminal, use the Flying Bird Flip to reach the upper level.
Instead of heading through the door at the top, turn around, and you'll see an opening across the gap that you can jump to. Make your way over, then use the Caddis Wire to follow the path to the large arena where the mission takes place.
Once you are done defeating the group of bodyguards, which is simply made up of the same DDO enemies you've already been fighting, look for the exit gate, which will lead you back to DarkNest Terminal 2.
Chapter 2 Walkthrough Part 2 – Ninha Gaiden 4
Reach DarkNest Terminal 3:
From the second DarkNest Terminal, make your way up the Flying Bird Flip walls, then head through the door, in the opposite direction from the DDO Bodyguard mission.
Immediately after passing through the door, you'll face two basic enemies. Once they are dealt with, jump on the rail and prepare for a bit more interaction. This time, you'll have to deal with a ship firing rockets at you. When this happens, jump to the next rail with RB/R1.
You'll also encounter small drones that drop obstacles onto the rail. You can take them out with Shurikens (B/Circle), or you can just jump over the obstacles.
The rail is relatively short, and you will immediately be dropped into the chamber with DarkNest Terminal 3 and Tyran's Raven. Make sure to open Chest 4, which is against a wall in the same chamber. It contains Kongou Iron Brew x1.
Chapter 2 Final Boss Fight – Ninja Gaiden 4
Chest 4 & Final Rail:
From the third terminal, make your way up and out of the chamber. Before you jump on the next rail, look to the right to find Chest 4, which contains Incense of Rebirth x1.
Once you grab the chest, jump on the rail and simply pay attention to the prompts. You'll jump from rail to rail, eventually landing at the final boss's arena.
DDO Proto-Golaith Boss Fight:
The DDO Proto-Goliath will be surrounded by several enemies, including those pesky flying enemies stuck to the kite-like items. It will benefit you greatly to take them out before taking on the massive boss.
The Proto-Goliath is actually deceptively easy, once it is on its own. Make sure to either Perfect Dodge or Parry its slow attacks with the large club.
Whenever it charges up for a power attack (marked by a red exclamation point), hit it with a Bloodraven-stance attack to stagger it. These two methods alone will allow you to defeat it fairly quickly. Entering Berserk State will make it even faster.
Once it is dead, you'll have a brief final encounter in which Bloodbath Slaughter is unlocked, which is a sweeping attack that kills all enemies around you while in Beserk State.
Once that is done, destroy the final Pylon, and the chapter will come to an end.
