NInja Gaiden 4's third chapter, Phantom Pleasure Quarter, picks up right where Chapter 2: Haunted District left off. Yakumo is continuing to make his way through Sky City Tokyo, in search of the deamon who seems to be heavily affecting the environment. After destroying all three Pylons, Yakumo begins the next stretch of his journey. In this guide, we'll provide a complete walkthrough for Chapter 3, including all collectible locations in the Phantom Pleasure Quarter.
The Best Ninja Gaiden Games, Ranked
From 1989's Ninja Gaiden to 2025's Ninja Gaiden 4, here are the best games in Team Ninja's legendary franchise.
Chapter 3 Walkthrough Part 1 – Ninja Gaiden 4
DarkNest Terminal 1 & New Missions:
The first DarkNest Terminal, along with Tyran's Raven, will appear very quickly in Chapter 3. You'll encounter them almost as soon as you start walking the main path. When you first interact with the terminal, you'll likely see that there are several new missions you can accept.
Tyran's Raven is encountered just beyond the terminal. You can see the raven's red eye glowing in the distance as you approach.
We are not yet sure whether you need to complete any previous missions before new missions will become available in subsequent chapters. For the time being, we will list the new missions as they become available for us, noting when we turn in previous missions so you can see our progress. Should we confirm any information on this front, we'll add it here.
New Missions in Chapter 3:
- Execute the Renegade DDO Soldiers – Sky City Tokyo – Reward: NinjaCoin x5500
- Defeat 10 Burabura Lantern Daemons – All Areas – Reward: NinjaCoin x3000, Crimson Blood Balm x1
- Find the Rotting Charm in Sky City Tokyo – Reward: Black Scale x1
- Execute the Food Thief – Sky City Tokyo – Reward: NinjaCoin x5500, Senjin War Brew x1
Chest 1 & DarkNest Terminal 2:
After leaving the first terminal, you'll swing across a large gap and face the first combat encounter of Chapter 3. This is a small group of basic enemies, so there shouldn't be too much to worry about. Make sure to use the grapple points to easily reach the floating enemies.
Before you make your way up the Flying Bird Flip section before the second terminal, turn to the right, and you'll see Chest 1 against the wall. Open it to collect Life Elixir x1.
Once the fight concludes, you'll quickly reach the second terminal and raven.
Chapter 3 Walkthrough: Shrine Daemon Fight 1 – Ninja Gaiden 4
First Shrine Daemon Encounter:
From the second terminal, you'll cross a series of traversal challenges, culminating in the first encounter with the shrine guardian, which appears to be the daemon your team has been mentioning.
The fight isn't too difficult, as her attacks seem mostly limited to her umbrella, which she uses as a melee weapon. There are several grapple points that line the arena, which you can use to escape her onslaught if you get overwhelmed.
However, the far more effective solution is to simply use Parry or Perfect Block. Both of these skills will interrupt her attacks and allow you to inflict massive damage. You'll also want to make sure you use any Bloodraven attack to disrupt her power attacks. Once you see the red exclamation mark, use the Bloodraven form as quickly as possible. She is faster than most opponents, so you may need to practice.
This is only the first of many tough fights in Chapter 3, so don't waste your Incense of Rebirth here. There is nothing wrong with simply retrying the battle, and saving your one revive tool for later.
Keep in mind that the daemon has two health bars. You can tell this by the segments shown below the bar itself. Make sure to plan accordingly, and remember not to use up your resources too early in the fight.
Where to Find the Food Thief in Chapter 3 – Ninja Gaiden 4
Execute the Food Thief Mission:
After you complete the first encounter with the shrine daemon, you'll enter the shrine proper. You'll quickly realize that the fight with the daemon was not final.
In the second large chamber, where you encounter the new deamon enemy type, you'll find Chest 2 in the back corner. This chest contains another Life Elixir x1.
After the chest, head along the main path and you'll see that there is a set of stairs on the left, and the path to the end of the chamber on the right. The stairs are the main path, so for now you'll want to stay to the right of the stairs.
As you pass them, you'll see Chest 3 against the far wall of the chamber. Open it to collect yet another Life Elixir x1.
To find the Food Thief, turn left at the chest and go through the gate. As soon as you enter, the "Execute the Food Thief" mission banner will appear, notifying you that you are in the correct area. You'll need to fight the Food Thief, who may be the toughest enemy you'll face up to this point. They don't have a huge moveset, but they are capable of inflicting massive damage with every attack.
Once again, parries and perfect blocks are your best friends. However, the Food Thief is much faster than most enemies, so it may take an attempt or two until you're comfortable with his attacks to defeat him.
This fight may be the first (as it was for us) where you actually need to use the items you've collected. In particular, the Kongou Iron Brew, which improves your defense, is helpful. Also, make sure to equip the Cobalt Ring over the Bulwark God's Orb. All the Food Thief's attacks are up close and personal. Once you defeat the thief, simply head back the way you came in and continue the chapter.
Where to Find the Rotting Charm in Chapter 3 – Ninja Gaiden 4
Found in Chest 4:
The next mission item you can find in Chapter 3 is found very quickly after dispatching the Food Thief. Head out of the thief's arena, and make your way up the stairs you previously avoided.
At the top of the stairs, look for a blue cargo container on the right. Head to the backside of the container, and you'll find Chest 4. Inside the chest, you'll find the Rotting Charm.
When you encounter the next DarkNest Terminal, turn in the Rotting Charm to receive a Black Scale. With that, you'll be halfway to your second Max Health increase.
Chapter 3 Walkthrough Part 2 – Ninja Gaiden 4
Phantasmal Herb & Burabura Lantern Demons:
After collecting the Rotting Charm, turn the corner, and you'll find yourself back in the shrine. After seeing the daemon, turn the corner again, and you'll end up in a combat arena with the Burabura Lantern Daemons. These are the subject of one of the new missions for Chapter 3.
Be careful with this enemy, as they will explode on death. They will also try to swarm you and explode on their own. Try to quickly take out as many as you can, while getting out of the way before they explode.
Before you leave the first combat chamber, you'll want to look for a small gap between the walls where a small set of stairs leads to Chest 6. You want to make sure to grab this chest, because it contains a Phantasmal Herb. Once you turn in the Rotting Charm mission at the next DarkNest Terminal, you'll get the second Dragon Lord's Grace, increasing your Max Health.
DarkNest Terminal 3:
After getting the herb, make your way to the next combat chamber, which contains a large daemon and more lanterns. After you deal with them, you'll have to take the ladder to the upper level, where you'll find more lantern enemies before the next DarkNest Terminal.
With all three encounters, you should have enough to kill 10 Burabura Lantern Daemons and turn in that mission.
Where to Find Gourdy & Renegade DDO Soldiers in Chapter 3 – Ninja Gaiden 4
Gourdy & Chest 7:
To locate the Gourdy in Chapter 3, start from the third DarkNest Terminal and head towards the wall-run that leads across the large open chamber. Instead of running across, drop into the lower chamber and take on the first enemy group.
Once they are dealt with, look for a chamber filled with a lot of junk. There are several boxes and crates blocking the entrance.
Head inside, and you'll find a Gourdy in one of the corners. Perform the capture mini-game to collect it.
Before you move on, open Chest 7, which is up against a wall in the same chamber. It contains Divine Life Elixir x1.
Where to Find the Renegade DDO Soldiers:
From the junk-filled chamber, head back out to the first combat room. Look for another exit that leads down a long corridor to a lower chamber. There you will find the Renegade DDO Soldiers.
There are several basic DDO soldiers, and one elite soldier. They are the same as most of the basic enemies you've taken out thus far. Once you have them defeated, make sure to return to the DarkNest Terminal and turn in the mission.
Shrine Daemon Final Boss Fight – Ninja Gaiden 4
Chests 8-11:
From the final DarkNest Terminal, make your way across the wall-run you missed while going after the Gourdy and Renegade Soldiers. Head up the ramp, and you'll see Chest 8 and Chest 9 up against the far wall. Be careful as you approach, as you'll be ambushed from behind by several Burabura Lantern Daemons when you go to open the chests.
The first chest contains Senjin War Brew x1, and the second chest contains Rejuvenation Elixir x1.
Follow the main path using the Caddis Wire, then drop into the final chamber. You'll find Chest 10 against a fence at the opposite end of the chamber from the main exit to the boss fight. This chest contains an Incense of Rebirth x1. Chest 11, the final chest, is found to the right of the exit, against a wall. It contains Divine Life Elixir x1.
Shrine Daemon Fight:
Enter the final door, and you'll have to run down a long, dark path to the final boss arena. You'll have a chance to use the final DarkNest Terminal and Tyran, both of which are off to the right of the path. Look for the raven's red eye in the dark to mark their location.
This boss fight has two phases, split among the two health bars. The first phase is essentially the same as the previous fight. The second phase sees the daemon's massive tail used as a weapon, in addition to the Umbrella. They work in tandem, and are much more powerful together.
The attack patterns consist of all previous moves, but amped up to be much faster, and much harder to parry. The tail swirls around while the umbrella is striking at you. For the most part, pay attention to the umbrella over the tail. The boss also has a few new tricks up her sleeve this time around. She will sometimes launch what appear to be Burabura Lantern Daemons at you this time. Watch for the exclamation mark warning and the red flames.
There will also be a new attack phase, where several open umbrellas launch at you from different directions. Pay attention to the flight paths of each umbrella, which are shown on the floor of the arena.
As long as you are able to use Parries and Perfect Blocks, along with their follow-up attacks, like Reflect and Mirage, the fight should not prove too challenging.
